This place is amazing. They treat you like family and the food is amazing. I recommend the lasagna and their pesto chicken ravioli. This place is so nice, that I decided to propose to my fiancée there. I love this place!!

Went here with some friends that said it was a 5. Well it might have been a weak 4 for us. I had the clams Linguini with Clam Sauce and my wife the lasagna. My dinner a 5 but the lasagna was way too much tomato for my wife or my taste. Almost like a store bought sauce. I would stick with the white sauce and all would be great. In a strip mall not the best ambiance but the owner and servers were great. I would go back but NO TOMATO base sauces for us.

This was a fabulous little neighborhood find. Great food and loved the family style atmosphere. Bought the coupon deal of yelp and had a wonderful lunch date with friends.

This place was AMAZING! Not to be missed. Passing through on our way around the country from WV. The owner and staff were beyond friendly. Food was great, service was great. I cannot say enough great things about this place. Do yourself a favor and go...everyday. And please do not miss buying a bottle of TAFT STREET PINOT NOIR!

Absolutely great meal. Service was just right. I agree with others, the Lasagna was exceptional. I had half for lunch the day after to save room for desert.

Wonderful! The owner made us feel like part of the family. It is easy to tell why he has lots of loyal patrons. Excellent food too. The olive tapenade was the best that I have ever had.

We absolutely love this neighborhood gem -- a rustic, warm, and inviting restaurant with over-the-top service, and excellent, authentic Italian fare. We've been here a few times and have tried numerous items from the regular menu as well as specials, and have never been disappointed. The highlights in my mind are the carbonara, vongole, and pesto -- 3 simple dishes that SO MANY Italian places do wrong, yet here, they are stellar. The service is amazing! Riccardo is one of the friendliest proprietors we've ever met - he makes it a point to greet guests personally. The service echoes this type of sentiment and is always friendly and efficient, without any pressure to turn the table or rush you in any way. After dinner one time, we sat drinking our wine for easily another 30-45 minutes and Riccardo even came by to give us a refill on our wine "so [we] wouldn't get thirsty."

I really like the family atmosphere here. Used a Yelp deal while passing through town. Overall the food was really good and was flavored very well. Service was very friendly. One thing that perplexed me was the use of canned peaches in my salad. Wish I would have known because I would have picked something else. Otherwise, would recommend and go again!

I love this place. The owners couldn't be warmer or more accommodating. Most importantly, the food is excellent. I recommend you try their bruschetta (the best I've ever had), and their gnocchi. I love everything they make, but those two dishes have me coming back. This Italian restaurant is real Italian - the owner is from Northern Italy and knows what good food tastes like. Try Trattoria Cattaneo. It's wonderful!!!

Great classic Italian menu, we had a mixed seafood linguini and the spaghetti puttanesca which were both excellent and huge! They only had one Zinfandel choice but it was buttery-superb and reasonable. The real star was the incredibly warm and friendly staff, all of them. They gave us a lovely dessert wine on the house to finish with...we'll be back for sure!!

OK--so we've been back. A lot. We've gotten to know the owner better and sit at the bar as often as we can. It's just a relaxed, nice atmosphere. The food is always spot on and the specials are worth looking into when available. Recommendations: the gnocchi. Light, fluffy, filling...I get the pesto sauce with it. Mm. I usually have no room for dessert, but the tiramisu is very good. On weekends or Friday evenings it can get quite loud inside, so if you're looking for quiet and relaxed come early or on the other week nights. Truly enjoying eating here 2-3 times a month.

Have been 3 times now. First time, years ago, it was pretty good. Second time everything was drenched in salt. Last time, a couple weeks ago, it was delicious. The chicken pesto lasagne (special) that my bf ordered was so good. We were ooohing and ahhhing. We also ordered the chicken fettuccine Alfredo which was just ok and cheese ravioli in Alfredo sauce which was better. Caesar salad was fresh and had a nice Caesar dressing. Bread with olive tapenade is tasty. Service was good. It's a nice little place. I'll be returning.

Wonderful food in a casual yet comfortable setting. Authentic Italian food at great prices. Try the Gorgonzola polenta with balsamic reduction - OUTSTANDING! You won't be disappointed. The owner is very personable and truly cares about his business. We WILL be back!

When I hear, "We don't go there for the food, we go there because it's a friendly neighborhood place" alarm bells go off in my head, and I become, well, cynical. Thus was the case with Trattorria Cattaneo. Word has it with locals that the feeling is like "Cheers" -- where everybody knows your name. Based on my observation on a recent first time visit, that seemed to be the case. Definitely a nice, popular, neighborhood, family feel to the place. Arriving around 5:45 pm with a party of 4 without a reservation on a Friday evening, the small restaurant and wine bar was busy, but luckily we were seated immediately. Sadly, by the end of the meal I had discovered that there is absolutely nothing that distinguishes Trattorria Cattaneo from any other Mom and Pop Italian restaurant. The short, two page menu of standard, unremarkable Italian fare is an uninspiring duplicate of every mediocre Italian restaurant you have ever been to. I found my food to be bland, with my Chicken Parmigiana taking on the consistency a frozen dinner. The best thing I can say about my experience is that what the restaurant completely lacks in menu creativity, food quality and product presentation, they do deliver a misguided, but honest and sincere effort in friendly, attentive, service and hospitality. Yet, without all the components working in concert together, Trattorria Cattaneo fails in my opinion. My humble suggestion to the ownership would be to refocus on the food, and put that wonderful Italian passion into the food and a new, imaginative menu. It's the missing element in an otherwise well-intentioned, but otherwise forgettable Italian restaurant. Later that same evening I returned home and by chance turned on the TV and found Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmare's on. It made me think that a well-meaning restaurant like Trattorria Cattaneo would be a perfect candidate for an overhaul on that show.

The food is wonderful. The staff are friendly and helpful. The noise is atrocious! I would give this place five stars but for the noise. You can only hold a conversation by shouting. I really hate having to do that. And I wear hearing aids so the noise made it difficult to even think. We wanted to try someplace new while celebrating my husband's new job. It's popular. Make reservations or you might have to wait a long time. I had the Fettucine Alfredo and the Arugula salad. Both wonderful The cream sauce on the Alfredo was just the right amount of creamy and not over poweringly garlicky like some places. My husband had the wild boar sausage dish and the sausage was delicately spiced, tender, and flavorful. The food is absolutely great. Sevice is somewhat slow, but they were very busy and the food is worth a bit of wait. The really bad part was not being able to easily hold a conversation. I had to shout to be heard, and my husband had to repeat anything he said two or three times for me to understand him. So we were much more conscious of the long wait between courses. I don't know what, if anything can be done about the noise. While I really enjoyed the food, the noise might keep me from returning. The owner and the staff are more than friendly. The owner kissed my hand as we were leaving. Quite a charming man. And the crowd around the bar appeared to be regulars. The restaurant itself has a family feeling to it. The decor is like visiting a friend's house. If it weren't for the noise...

I am only fan becuase of the hospitality and the taste of thier lovely food! They treat you as if you are a regular even if its your first time. they are very generous with their servings! I recommend eating here, however it can be a bit loud but it brings the restaurant to life!

Just left. Meal was just so so. Had a discount so we thought we would give it a try. First off said we had a Coupon when we made our reservation. We got sat at a small table in the bar like we're being punished for using the coupon. It was so loud we could not carry on a conversation. The homemade bread was burnt. Had the chicken park. Pasta sauce was thin and lacked flavor. My wife had the polenta which was very good. Bottom line this place is a Bar that serves food. Not a restaurant.

Love this place. My husband and I have gone several times, on a friend's recommendation. Casual, warm atmosphere. Great service, great food, (love the gnocci) legit italian accents, and we even got free Moscato! Highly recommend for a fun special occasion or night out.

I've been here with friends for lunch several times with friends. Since we all loved the food and friendly service, I asked to go for my birthday. My husband got linguini marinara and a cup of minestrone. I tasted the minestrone and it was delish, but not traditional minestrone. I ordered something not on the menu that is usually a lunch dish. No problem. Service was swift and friendly. The food and bread and wine were good. A generous pour of house wine for me. I love this place and will be back, the problem is that too many people love it so it is very noisy at times. We were there when a group was eating at the bar and engaged in a football game. After they left it wasn't so bad. Prices are easy on the wallet, too. Parking should be easy, but the huge lot was jammed on the Thursday 6pm when we were there.

Ricardo does a wonderful job as a host and server and Julie is his match in the kitchen. Their food is delicious, particularly the gorgonzola salad. It's obvious that they're still figuring a few things out but their enthusiasm is disarming.

This place is a little gem. LOVE the split pea soup, a meal in itself. The olive spread they give you with bread is also great. Good pasta, great creamy pesto sauce that's not overly full of butter or cream, really nice gnocchi. Everyone is really friendly, you instantly feel like you've been coming there for years.

I went here on a Satuday night. The place was packed and the owner managed to squeeze us in right away. We were treated like VIPS. The tapenade that they serve with their foccacia bread was amazing. They even allowed me to order off the menu. I love Aurora sauce (tomatoe cream) and they made no fuss about making it for my husband and I for no additional charge. We also got a desert wine for free. TALK ABOUT SERVICE. It has been along time since i've seen this kind of hospitality! I will definately be comming back.

This was our first visit to this restaurant, we went with a group of friends for a birthday outing. It's a cozy little restaurant in a small shopping center..you have to go in to see that it's nicer than you think from the outside..the place was packed, and was pretty noisy..but a happy noisy! You can tell the locals really like to go here. The menu was simple and basic, but the food was very good, and the owners bend over backward to make sure you enjoy your experience. This was especially wonderful for me, as I eat gluten free, and was dying to have pasta. Julie (the owner) keeps gluten free pasta on hand, and sets up a seperate pot to cook it in! Awesome! I was so happy, and the dish I had was wonderful. My husband had the canneloni, and is convinced this is his new favorite place for casual dining. I think I was particularly impressed by how Julie and Ricardo will go to great lengths to make sure you are happy, the prices are reasonable and the food good and plentiful...

I love this place. I have eaten here about 10 times and each time it has gotten better. The service is awesome, I love Ricardo, Julie and Josie. They are all so attentive and will do anything to make the customer happy. A couple of things you must try: 1) The antipasto platter. Always full of yummy things like polenta with sausage, seafood salad, melon and prosciutto, caprese salad and bruschetta. I think its only $10 and will feed three or four as an appetizer. 2) The gnocchi in gorgonzola sauce with balsamic reduction. OMG. This is so delicious. The gnocchi are homemade and the sauce sounds strange but is so good, its that sweet savory thing. 3) Any of the homemade semi-freddos. Chef Julie makes these herself and they are like nothing I have ever had. Sort of like mousse, sort of like ice cream. Just try it you wont regret it.

Once again fabulous, we had not been for about 1 yr and it was better than ever. Crowded but delicious. Ricardo and Julie along with the boys taking care of a packed house. Ricardo is as gracious, charming and generous an owner/server there is, while Julie's simplicity of Italian delights makes for one heck of a meal. Ricardo picks great wines at affordable prices, the tiramisu is one of the best as is the semi-freddo dessert. The star of the evening was the appetizer: Polenta slices with a creamy gorgonzola sauce and balsamic reduction......too DIE FOR!!!! I think I licked the plate. My mother in law is the pickiest eater ever and barely eats more than two bites at any meal and she had a 1/2 plate of the fettucini alfredo and said it is the best, freshest pasta she's had anywhere, she even ate dessert and some of the polenta appetizer. This was the true test. Trattoria Cattaneo is a winner, year after year. May this local family continue to prosper.

A personal favorite, and for good reason-the food is outstanding! Don't tell the Chef though, because she's too modest to take credit for her outstanding creations. "It's all simple, good food.", she once told me. It's better than good Julia! Classic Italian comfort food with great service and exceptional hospitality. Eating here is like dinner at your Noni's"s ("grandma" in Italian) house. The staff is more akin to family and they welcome you with open arms the minute you step through the door. We enjoyed a nice, crisp Prosecco upon arrival and that was followed by a wonderful prosciutto, marscapone and strawberry crostini and balsamic glazed brushetta. Both were outstanding and complimented the Prosecco nicely. Our salads were simple yet delicious. I had the Spinaci (minus bacon because I'm a vegetarian) and I was not disappointed! This salad offers a nice blend of tender baby spinach, thinly sliced red onions, feta cheese and walnuts; married together in a light dressing. Dinner was equally as delicious, with two vegetarian specials that night! The vegetarian lasagna was excellent, boasting homemade noodles, layers of light ricotta and bechamel, and vegetables galore! I opted for the Gnocchi in white sauce with balsamic drizzle and it was amazing! The gnocchi were light and topped with just the right amount of rich, creamy sauce, which was accented beautifully by the sweet acidity of the balsamic. A few bits of diced tomato in balsamic accented the dish and I dug in, fending off stray forks from my fellow dining companions. For dessert we shared the semifreddo and creme brulee and they were both outstanding! Rich, creamy and delicious! We practically licked the plates. Trattoria Cattaneo has a great wine list, perfectly suited to compliment their cuisine by offering a nice mix of moderately priced California and Italian wines. They offer wine by the glass, carafe and bottle so there is something for everyone. Every aspect of Trattoria Cattaneo makes it the quintessential little Italian cafe that every local loves. Great food, great wine, great service-what's not to love? Go, Manja!

Not sure how this place has 4.5 stars. We ordered the chicken parm and the spaghetti bolognese with meatball. The chicken parm did not taste fresh. The chicken was drenched in marinara sauce and was tough to chew. Lacked flavor completely. Makes the Tour of Italy from Olive Garden look Michelin level. The bolognese was even more drenched in sauce. Almost like a soup. Way too much pepper. The meatball wasn't bad, very standard. A little on the dry side. The service was decent. Atmosphere is loud but that didn't really bother me. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

I was visiting Santa Rosa and was looking for spaghetti. I yelped a couple of places and decided to go here since it great reviews. The restaurant is a bit small to accommodate a lot of people. They seem to reserve a lot of tables and would rather leave them empty than let the long to get smaller. My group was forced to sit at the bar even though there were at least 3 tables empty and 3 stools reserved. The wait would have been at least 1:30 if we didn't sit at the bar. I wasn't upset about this since we didn't have to wait to long for those seats. The atmosphere is very homey and friendly. You really get the family feel at this place. The waiter at the bar was super nice and willing to keep us satisfied since we were stuck at the bar corner. I ordered the marinara linguine pasta/spaghetti with meatballs. The portion was good, but I wasn't very impressed with the sauce. The sauce was a bit watery and the noodles were a bit hard. The overall dish was just okay. However, the meatball was cooked very well and it was tasty. I would give 4 stars for the meatballs. The free cheese bread is not very impressive and it was more greasy than tasty. I didn't want to eat more than one piece. We still finished it because we didn't want to waste food. The prices were reasonable for the most part. We did get a small salad for a steep price of 5.95. That was definitely not worth the price. All in all, this place isn't bad if you are trying to find reasonable priced pasta or are looking to carb up before a race.

After my 4th reluctant dinner (went again only because I had another $40 food coupon purchased for $20), I no longer endorse this restaurant. Why? 1. Food prep is not refined. Pastas are gloppy. The previously preferred 1/2 chicken plate was no better than a roast Safeway chicken. Overcooked. 2. The dining room noise level is still too loud to converse or even think. 3. Tables are too close together. Banging into fellow diners while sitting and moving elbows during a meal is ridiculous. This ain't Manhattan or Paris France where close quarters are required given expensive floor space and the need to make maximum income per square foot. Kudos still deserved for the friendly if forgetful service. These folks mean well but food execution and room ambience no longer deserve my hard earned money.

We went there for dinner and had an excellent meal. Started off with the yummy focaccia bread and tapenade. Followed by a Mista Salad split for two. Then my wife had Fettuccine Alfredo and I tried the Linguini Carbonara. We shared a large glass of Pinot Grigio. Everything was wonderful. It was noisy inside so we sat outside - I can tell that the acoustics are not great - so if you don't like LOUD - sit outside. Still based on the excellent service and wonderful food - this gem still rates 5 stars.

I went here after a recommendation from a friend and I even scored a Yelp deal $30 for $15. Reviews seem to be hit or miss but I'm thrilled we found this little hole in the wall and we'll be back! Reservations recommended we didn't have one but we were promptly seated just after 6 on a Friday night. We are lucky we got there when we did because it filled up fast. Filled up fast equals LOUD family friendly restaurant! Luckily, my fiancé is Italian so we can deal with loud. If you want to talk to the person/people you're with you're not in the right place. Upon being seated we were given a basket of deliciously yummy homemade bread. I WILL BE BACK FOR THE BREAD ALONE!! The man and I split a Cesare Salad ($7.95) which the separated into two bowls for us. Generous portions of crisp fresh romaine lettuce, homemade croutons and shaved parmesan cheese with just the right amount of cesare dressing. I ordered the Homemade Gnocchi ($14.95) and I choose the Alfredo sauce. Good size portion of gnocchi which tasted exactly they way it should. I feel like the Alfredo sauce was a little sweet, my fiancé felt the same way. Still good but I'd probably choose the pesto sauce next time. I really wish they had a cheese sauce as there is nothing I like better than Quattro Formaggi Gnocchi. I added a pound of grated cheese to my dish...not the same. Fiancé picked the Chicken Parmigiano ($17.95) and a glass of Sangiovese ($9). The chicken parm comes with the chef's choice of starch/side so the huge piece of chicken came with a daunting portion of marinara penne. Lightly breaded chicken covered in oozy melty cheesey goodness (yes that's a technical term). I didn't care for the wine but it went down all the same. Our server, Jorge, was phenomenal. Attentive without being overbearing. Funny and personable as well. Why only the 4 stars you ask? We were sitted next to a wall/shelf covered in picture frames...which were covered in dust. :-( There was also a really snotty server that looked at us like we were something unfit for the bottom of her shoes each time she made eye contact. Everyone else was very pleasant. I must say...I just ate our leftovers which were just as good as two nights ago when fresh. I wish I had a basket of that bread!

Came here after a day of ziplining so my group was pretty famished! Portions were big for very decently priced meals, continuous refills of focaccia bread, friendly and super attentive staff! Only negatives: bathroom is next to / kind of in part of the kitchen which is gross that it's so close to where the food is being made.

I'm impressed with everything about this restaurant . The food was spectacular . Some of the best Italian food I've had in California. I had the seafood pasta with angel hair pasta and loved every bite. I was also able to taste the meat lasagna which was perfect. We brought a bottle (which they didn't charge corkage) and we ordered another bottle of red. Their soft bread with dip was also a great addition. Who'd knew such a place would exist in Santa Rosa ? Especially for a foodie such as my self coming from the likes of the SF Bay Area, this place was better than many of those high priced San Francisco restaurants near north beach.

Wanted to write an update for Trattoria Cattaneo since my previous review was 3 stars and at the time of eating there in 2010 I had a horrible cold and was doped up on cold meds. This weekend another of my cousins was married and he too had his rehearsal dinner here since it's a family favorite of those who live in Santa Rosa. My wife and I were excited to be invited since it's rare these days that all the family is together since we're all geographically spread around. The restaurant did a 100% perfect job this time around. It was a well oiled machine. Each course delivered with perfect timing, nobody was missing anything, food delicious and cooked to perfection. Upon sitting down there was bread baskets waiting. Focaccia bread served with a unique garlicky version of tapenade. It was fantastic and being devoured fast. Next bruschetta was dropped off at the table. One of the best I've had. The tomato mix was loaded with garlic and packed a flavor punch to the taste buds. Next came a choice of mixed green salad or caesar. Since I didn't like the dressing last time on the mixed I went with the caesar. Very good dressing, definitely had a nice anchovy undertone which I love. Main course was a choice of cheese ravioli, penne pesto, or chicken parmesan. Even though it's what I had last time I went with the chicken parm again. Unlike the last time this was pure perfection. GIANT slab of golden brown fried chicken that was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I was able to eat it with a fork, no knife needed. Not a dry chewy piece to be found. The tomato sauce was rich and loaded with flavor. Was served with a side of penne. Had a nice glass of local Zinfandel which was a generous pour! For dessert we were served tiramisu. My Aunt who's been to Italy several times said these guys make the best tiramisu she's had anywhere. My experiences are pretty much in California only, but I too agree it's the best I've ever had. Excellent experience at every level. Friendly staff, comfortable restaurant for a large group, delicious food, and quickly refilled drinks.

This place is a neighborhood jewel. I'm only sorry we didn't find it sooner. But we will be back. We shared a caesar salad (which they split for us). My husband asked for the cioppino to be made with a white sauce and they accommodated. It was chock full of seafood and really outstanding. I had one of the specials, risotto with shrimp and scallops. It, too, was outstanding. The risotto had a mild lemon flavor and lots of seafood. Everything was very fresh. No canned anything. We were too full for dessert but next time we'll save room. We went for an early dinner (4ish) so the restaurant was quiet. The owner served us and could not have been nicer. The prices were very reasonable. And to make it even better, we took advantage of a $30 for $15 coupon on Yelp before we went. Of course our tip was based on the full price of the meal. So happy to have found this excellent family-owned Italian restaurant!

Dined here last night with my boyfriend and his brother. I had read the reviews before coming here as we are on vacation. After giving it the benefit of the doubt hoping the worst of what I read wasn't true. I am dissapointed to report that they are. But First I'll give the pros so this isn't a total blender. PROS 1. Focaccia bread was very pleasant as it was moist and a bit crispy on edges with great seasoning. 2. Bruschetta was also very good... A lovely sweet flavor added. CONS 1. The spread was OVERLY oily killing almost the whole spread. 2. The toast for the bruschetta was so hard you almost couldn't bite through it. 3. The chicken bolagnese: chicken was rubbery, pappardelle pasta was good, and the bolagnese sauce wasn't flavorful in the least. 4. Linguini with clams: sauce again wasn't very flavorful and not the sauce you are typically expecting, clams were also rubbery aka overcooked(which was a bit odd to me as our dishes came out rather quickly so I didn't see why that would be a possibility). 5. Seafood salad with avocado: seafood was decent but again a flavorless dressing. I felt like I was eating raw seafood with mixed greens and lemon. To give everyone insight we are visiting here from Orange County and are quite accustomed to exquisite Italian food and what ethnic really tastes like. The real reason why I am writing this is review is to confirm what another girl wrote in her review on how both her and her father had horrible acid/stomach problems and not from overeating. None of us finished our meals and my boyfriend spent the next few hours after dinner in misery. When traveling I chose yelp to find the best of the best by pictures and the reviews and against my better judgement I chose the wrong choice. Don't be fooled by the pictures of good portions. It's really not worth your time or money. For a carb filled meal I would've turned to in-n-out without hesitation. Please read this and reconsider all the other great restaurant that Santa Rosa has to offer.

Went there for a friend's birthday with a large party of people and two toddlers. They were very accommodating and gracious. Food was to die for! Delicious Italian staples and we all left with a kiss on the cheek from the waiter as if we were life-long friends.

Awesome neighborhood spot that is worth going out of your neighborhood to go check out. Good wines. Food hits the spot. And the service makes you feel welcomed and appreciated.

Nothing but awesome! We had Lasagna, gnocchi, and butternut squash ravioli and they were all top notch excellent. The service was also top rate with Robert. The owner came by the table and we had a nice chat. That is always a nice touch. We will be back for sure.

Carbs, glorious carbs. Seriously tho, how great are carbs? I would never be able to go full paleo or any of those crazy diets because I love me some pasta, rice, and especially bread. When I do get into a carb craving condition, I grab my dad who is always down for the opportunity, and we opt for something exciting and new. My coworker told me that she bought the yelp $40 for $20 deal here and really enjoyed it, and so that's what we did as well. We arrived late in the dinner hours on a weekday, and they were pleasantly bustling. Despite the many occupied tables, we were immediately greeted with a friendly, enthusiastic waiter and shown to a table by the window. The menu has a ton of options, and when you're hungry, everything looks good. While we were deliberating, they brought out their insanely delicious, chewy, warm focaccia bread and house made walnut pesto, which we fought over, and waived the waiter for more. We started with some wine, I chose the J brand Pinot Gris, and my dad went for some red, and they came to the table in a glass, no, a full on GOBLET. WOWIE. First the incredible service, the delicious bread, and then this? Definitely made me optimistic about dinner. At the encouragement of the waiter, my dad selected the Lasagna ($13.95), and I inquired after a half alfredo and half bolognaise fettuccini ($10.95) with meatballs (+$2.50 each), which he said they could do-no problem. Even with the packed house, the entrees came back super fast...and then I saw it. MORE PASTA THAN I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE. Piles of pasta! Mountains of meatballs! Ladles of luscious sauce! My mouth agape, and my eyes wide, he mentioned that they gave me extra on the house. I may have looked hungry, but these servings would have fed a small army! The smells were heavenly. Lasagna was flavorful, complex and homey, with sauce snd cheese galore. My Bolognese was amazing, the alfredo however was a little on the boring side and somewhat pasty. Definitely could have used some garlic or more salt or something. That said, check out those portions! Enough leftovers for days of lunches! Sadly that evening, we both had such bad heartburn from our meals that we ended up tossing the leftovers. Three tums and a pepcid later I was still miserable. Oh what a way to go, death by acid. If this had not been the result for both of us, I would have gladly given them 4 stars. Price, service and portions are all excellent, but the constantly loud atmosphere and residual digestive distress lowered it to three. Amazing, but be ye warned.

Service was excellent. The food was good and a pretty decent value, I had the chicken marsala, my bf had a pasta with sausage (the best thing at the table) and my other friend had the parpadelle. The bread at the beginning with the pesto sauce is great -(and super fattening) The food was actually better as leftovers the next day.

We ate here for our second time this evening, and once again it was absolutely impeccable. From the attentive, yet not hovering service to the delicious food. I recommend you try the chef's choice antipasto. You will not be disappointed.

I had dinner with a friend here and we were both impressed. The bread and spread is wonderful. I could have made a meal on it alone! I had the canelloni which was delicious. The service is great and they are very attentive. Everyone looks happy while dining here. You can feel the good energy in this restaurant.

There is a very specific atmosphere to Trattoria Cattaneo, that atmosphere is home. It is like walking into your best friends Noni's house where you know your wine glass will never be empty and you are going to be served with another helping of pasta with slow simmered bolognese before your bowl is empty with your first helping. We visited Trattoria on a Saturday night and they were kind enough to accommodate a large party with three children under two (we maxed out their high chair availability!). Immediately our bottles of wine were popped open and fresh soft and delicious bread baskets were littering the table. The bread was absolutely to die for with a luscious garlic oil to slather all over it. We had a sampling of their bruschetta with a balsamic reduction as well which was so tasty I could have had a plate of that for dinner. Perfectly ripe tomatoes and tons of flavorful garlic, yum. I had the linguine carbonara which was full of flavor and the pasta was perfectly al dente. My husband had pillowy gnocchi swimming in rich and meaty bolognese sauce which he and our 14 month son gobbled up. Other dishes enjoyed at the table included pesto lasagna that was covered in luscious green pesto sauce and perfectly roasted chicken with pasta on the side. Everyone seemed to enjoy their entrees. Sweetly to finish out the meal they brought us a tiramisu with a candle in it to celebrate my birthday and twelve or so spoons so that everyone could try. The tiramisu was decadent and delicious and everything you hope for when you have this classic Italian dessert. Throughout the meal our service was completely on point. Wine, beer, and water glasses were always full and our requests were quickly filled (whole milk and fresh fruit for the babies? No problem!). It was clear from watching the staffs interaction with their customers that people visit regularly and are treated like family. This is truly a neighborhood joint, with attention to service and detail you don't often find. What a great evening Trattoria Cattaneo! I cannot wait to visit again.

Tried this place for the first time today and I'll definitely return...often. My friends and I ordered the Gorgonzola salad, wedge salad, and spinach salad to start. The bread is made fresh, a delicious focaccia served with a delightful olive tapenade. The owner split our salads so each of us had our own plateful of all three salads. The salads and each of our entrees were flavorful, the service was quick and the atmosphere perfect. This is our new go-to Italian restaurant.

Went there on a Friday night with prior reservation just to find this place packed. We had to wait for 10-15 minutes for our table but it was an entertaining time as we got a chance to check the place out and blend in! It seemed as though most people knew each other. It's probably a favorite neighborhood kitchen. It was just a bit too loud. The waiters were friendly and fast. The lasagna and lamb shank turned out to be good choices, so did the chocolate creme brûlée. We also enjoyed the cute wine carafe!

It pains me to rate this place only three stars. We found it on Yelp as we were only in the area for the weekend. Located in a sleepy strip center, Trattoria Cattaneo was quite lively when we arrived at 8pm. From the outside, it seemed to be more like a bar than a restaurant, but inside, it was packed. We waited outside for 5 minutes and got seated. The wait-staff was very courteous. As other have mentioned, the place feels as welcoming as somebody's Italian grandmother's house. We ordered up a couple of pastas and a bowl of soup. While we waited, we nibbled on their soft bread and pesto dip. The soup came out quickly, which was good as we were hungry. It was lukewarm and tasted like the end of the day soup. Then, we waited. We did our best to keep our toddler entertained, but it was a tough wait. Our waitress kept checking in on us, but with no food, there was really nothing to say. We watched as other tables seated after us got served. We felt left out. After 30 minutes, the waitress got the owner to drop by to apologize and say that our food was being made in the kitchen, after some snafu. At that point, it was too late to go elsewhere and I was too hungry to protest. Finally, after 45 minutes, our pastas arrived. They were decent by casual dining standards. By then, I just wanted to fill up and go. So I polished off my plate in a few minutes. Our waitress came by again to check, wondering why I sat so stone-faced. I had no words at that point. The time was nearing 9:30pm and the place was emptying out, except for a few lingering at the bar. I found the Yelp deal that others had mentioned. Altogether, we tabbed out at $46 with the $20 off. The wait staff was quite earnest which earned them my usual 20% before coupon. The poor kitchen operation during the middle of dinner really knocked down my rating of the place.

We've had many great meals here in the past, but tonight was definitely subpar. I ordered the wild boar sausage pasta dish, and it came in a soup bowl of grayish liquid. Gross. My boyfriend got the mixed seafood pasta and it was just greasy and flavorless. It is too bad because this place was one of our favorite places to splurge on a great meal, now I won't go back.

I liked the atmosphere, and the meatballs were wonderful. The steamed clams, however, were disappointing because the broth was just too spicy and not flavorful like it should be.

I love this place. Food is always spot on snd Ricardo, one of the owners, is great. Always greets with a "Good evening Bella" and an air kiss on each cheek, makes it feel that much more authentic Italian. I love the olive?nut? tapenade...I don't know what's in it exactly but it's delicious. The caprese is great. The gnocchi is like soft little pillows of heaven. The carbonara is my husbands go-to. We come here again and again. Highly recommend.

Trattoria Cattaneo is a wonderful Italian restaurant tucked away into Bennett Valley shopping center. It is one of the homiest Italian restaurants (both decor and service wise) I've ever visited. From the minute you walk in the door you're sure to feel like family. The restaurant is quite small inside and decorated with family photos and the like. It is a restaurant you're fine wearing jeans to (like most in Sonoma County) even on New Years Eve. Promptly upon being seated we were brought fresh sweet french bread, focaccia, and olive tapenade. Delicious all around - the waiter brought more after we scarfed down the first batch. I had a green salad special to start and gnocchi in pesto sauce (which was quite creamy) for my entree. Both were fantastic. Other winners at our table were the chicken parmesan and the eggplant parmesan. We were pleased to find we weren't charged corkage for the bottle of wine we brought, and were also brought dessert wine at the end of our meal (it was New Years Eve). The service throughout the evening was wonderful; we'll definitely be back!

A friend bought the Yelp deal so i could have some real Italian food. I wish i could say i was really blown away with the food but none of us were. We ordered the Chicken Parmigiano with the Penne and Marinara, Linguini carbonara, and taramisu. The bread was very moist, and had good flavor but for 2 of us it was too oily and salty for us to eat. The Marinara had great flavor but there wasn't much of it for the pasta. It was more of eating penne with a very slight taste of sauce. When we did get a hint of the sauce it was very flavorful but left us wanting more sauce and throwing out the bland pasta. The chicken was really good, and lightly breaded. It comes in a huge portion but after cutting all the fat away, which seemed to be quite a bit. It didn't leave much to share. What was left was good and flavorful. Linguini carbonara is one of my fvorite Italian dishes. I was really excited to try this the most. Although the noodles were done perfectly for me, it was so dry to all of us. The salty Pancetta was so over powering that all we tasted was salt. We all were spitting out fatty, chewy pieces of Pancetta. Lastly the taramisu. I was expecting more after seeing some of the pictures. The flavor wasn't bad, it just tasted like whipped cream with a hint of chocolate here and there. There were a lot of dishes that looked really good from what my friend observed while waiting for our order. Even though we weren't very happy with this dinner, i will try one more time. For the fact, i love Italian and many other dishes to explore. This place was so packed and so loud. Even though i wasn't with him, i was on the phone with him. He said everyone there was super friendly, and the bartender was really nice to talk to. I will update my review when i retry.

Our last visit had been well over a year ago. After seeing a Yelp coupon for this restaurant, we decided to check it out again. We raved about the food after our first visit and thought this might be a great time to check it out again. Knowing that the place has a crazy loud noise level, we went at 5:30 to avoid the crowds and the noise. So far so good. I ordered the Seafood Cioppino. Very disappointing meal. Although it was a huge portion, the broth was nothing but a heavy handed tomato sauce with a little chicken broth thrown in. The seafood consisted of a heavy dose of rubbery, hard pieces of octopus and a miscellaneous scattering of shelled mushy clams and 2 prawns. I told the waiter about who looked at me and said he would talk to the chef. He never came back and left me to finish the dish. By the time we left, the noise was so deafening, we were anxious to leave. I will give it another try and order what they look to be well known for and that is their fresh made pasta dishes. I will be back with another review after one more visit.

This is one of my favorite spots in Santa Rosa for Italian food. In a very inconspicuous location, you would never expect to find amazing, authentic Italian food in the same parking lot as a 7-11 but Trattoria Cattaneo is great. When you arrive they will greet you like a regular whether it is your 1st or 50th time coming in. The service is always great and everyone who works here is awesome. The owner is great and makes you feel like you are in a "real" Italian establishment. Now about the food: You will be given fresh baked bread and olive tapenade to get you started - beware: the olive tapenade is so good you may eat too much and not be able to finish your actual entree (...or maybe that's just me?). All of their pastas are homemade and you can taste it. I especially like the gnocchi with pesto sauce, but I haven't encountered anything yet that I don't like on the menu. Recently sampled the Polenta in Gorgonzola appetizer which was delicious. Give it a shot and don't let the location deter you from expecting a very nice dinner here.

My husband and I came here on September 13th. The bread was very dry and oily at the same time. I had the soup of the day (squash) and it was very good. My husband had the clam appetizer and thought it was pretty good-nothing different or special from other clam dishes though. I had the fettucine pomodoro with shrimp and it was really bad. The sauce was super watery and didn't stick to the pasta at all. Service was good if a bit misguided-they brought my drink to other tables before getting to mine, tried to bring me someone else's salad, etc. The owner was not in the evening we were there so maybe that was why some things were lacking. Overall breakdown- Soup-4/5 Bread-1/5 Pasta entree-2/5

The focaccia was the best part of the meal, and what I ended up filling up on.I ordered the pomodoro and added chicken. The sauce was a mushy, overcooked and bland tomato goo that is apparently the base for some of their other pasta sauces. I'm guessing that the meager portion of chicken was a frozen breast strip that didn't get any extra attention or seasoning after it was thawed, and resulted in it being dry, rubbery and tasteless. I didn't bother to send my dish back: it seemed like it was par for the course there. The busser didn't think anything of me asking him to dump an almost untouched plate of food at the end of the meal. It wasnt terrible (eg. disgusting or unsanitary), but it was all in all disappointing enough to skip a meal over. My family were slightly happier with their osso bucco and gamberi. Before we had eaten our food, we ordered their chicken ravioli special to go to bring home to my wife. I wish we hadn't. I'm pretty sure I sampled the same raviolis at Costco, and I suspect the cream sauce was just whole milk and corn starch.

We heard great things about Trattoria Cattaneo through our coworkers, so when we found the great Yelp deal, we couldn't resist! This restaurant doesn't have the same ambiance as Lococo's, but has a much more family feel to it. We tried the Polenta which was certainly the most unique Polenta dish we've ever tried. It came with a creamy gorgonzola cheese spread topped with walnuts. We still can't figure out if it was a desert or an appetizer. Either way, it was awesome! The entrees were also very good. I give the food four stars, but the service easily makes the restaurant five stars. They don't charge a corkage fee for the first two wine bottles, which is pretty much unheard-of. The server also gave us two complimentary glasses of wine for dessert! We will definitely be back to share this restaurant with our family.

Having been born and raised in Italy I have fairly high standards for Italian food and am always rather skeptical of eateries advertising to be Italian. From the focaccia given as you're seated to the appetizers, the meal and the dessert, their food is DELICIOUS!!!!! I'm reminded of my fathers cooking with each meal I have, which I have rarely come across from an Italian restaurant not in Italy. Aside from the food, I have to add that the atmosphere and customer service is equally amazing! Everyone is so welcoming and ensures you feel right at home. I can't say enough good about this place! Great food, great service and great atmosphere!!!

This is an amazing place!! If you are looking for Italian food with authentic atmosphere and taste, then this is your spot. My wife and I went here for dinner last night and again they did not disappoint. My wife had the special which was a Cheese tortellini with a garlic cream sauce, spinach, mushrooms, and house made sausage. I had the half chicken and pasta(penne with pesto) and a cup of soup prior to our meal. Both were delicious and we couldn't stop stealing food off each other's plates(aww). The service is the real secret sauce I would have to say. Every time we come here, they treat you like your the cousin or uncle that just came to town. They are generous and it feels more like a friends house then you're at a restaurant. We will continue to dine here and once you visit I know you will too!

EXCELLENT service. It's VERY clear the owner wants his customers to leave happy and I appreciated that. It was fun to watch him interact with regulars and at one point, I wondered if every person in there was his friend. Anyhow, the service was (as I wrote) excellent. (LOUD is very accurate for the atmosphere.) I ordered the nightly special and though the chicken was quite tender, it was incredibly overpowered by the rosemary. I barely ate any of it. Polenta was pretty good and the asparagus nice and al dente. Hubby got the linguine with clams and left happy. Same as me, not the best he's had, but was just fine. Lots of clams but lots of canned clams vs. fresh. Definitely a texture difference. I asked for a small sample of the meat sauce they use and I'd order something that incorporated that tasty sauce. Maybe the lasagna next time. Anyhow, people were having a good time and the food was tasty so it's a good choice for Italian.

We came to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary with my husband's favorite cuisine - Italian - and we were floored by the fantastic food & service. Chef Julie's homemade olive oil & green onion bread was finger-licking good that we had 3 baskets full and I had to ask for the recipe for my hubby who couldn't stop gorging on the bread, which she provided readily in person. We ordered the Chicken Parmigiana and Cioppino. The Chicken Parm was tender and with al dente penne pasta done just right. The Cioppino was the best I've had even compared to the one I had in Italy (much better portion), esp. paired with the fresh bread. We slurped the cioppino and took half the chicken parm home since we were so full on the bread. Ricardo put the cherry on top with his great service and down-to-earth demeanor. We love good food paired with good-natured staff/owners! We would come back more often if we lived closer but we'll definitely be back for the Cioppino even if it takes another decade ;p

Nothing like authentic Italian to top off all the wine we've been drinking during our mini-vacay to wine country! This place was recommended by our ultra-cool airbnb host, and upon arrival I can tell that this place is good just by watching the customers interact with the owner. They freaking love him! You can tell everyone has been here a gazillion times and they can't get enough. Really great vibe! The pasta is homemade and of course delicious. I absolutely recommend the antipasto platter. So beautiful and they've really perfected the bruschetta, which I dream about from time to time. Huge eyeballs for other people's desserts (we were too stuffed to order, but will definitely save space next time!) Would definitely come back next time I'm in the hood. p.s. we cashed out the yelp $20 for $40 deal, and it was such a great deal, we actually felt bad about using it. such a steal for an amazing meal!

Found this place on Yelp randomly and I'm glad I did!!! We came to this restaurant for my boyfriend's bday dinner and instantly felt like we were in someone's home. The staff were very welcoming and the interior was very friendly and adorable. Their prices were perfect and you got a huge portion worth more than you paid. We got the fettuccine with pesto, eggplant parmesean and carbonara along with Arugula salad and their soup of the day. All was absolutely amazing!!! They also gave us a complementary glass of Moscato ( which was amazing) and a free Tiramisu ( amazing x2) for my bf's bday. We will definitely be coming back! Great, authentic, Italian restaurant!

We had not gone to this restaurant in quite a while and frankly I'm not sure why. We have been missing out. I tell you that the bread and olive oil dipping sauce that they make, is so good you really can't stop eating it. The service is really great and the food is to die for. They have really good gnocchi. I also tried their spinach salad and it was excellent. If anybody was listening to my only complaint / suggestion; it is that I wish they could somehow separate the bar with the big TV from the rest of the restaurant. If you're sitting on that side of the dining area, it diminishes the romantic ambiance. At the same time the service is so great and the food so wonderful that I can put up with it. It always seems to be packed there so it's recommended to call ahead and make a reservation. Truly one of the best Italian restaurants in Santa Rosa, perhaps Sonoma County too.

I really enjoyed the food, and especially liked the atmosphere and the service. Even though the restaurant is in a bit of a strip mall, when you walk inside, it screams, "Family-owned business--warm and welcoming!" The waitstaff were personable and very friendly--and managed to get us in and out in 45 minutes so we could make it to our show at Well Fargo Center. Oh, and the apricot salad was extremely good, and the eggplant parmigiana strong.

This Italian restaurant makes you feel like you stepped into Italy. The ambience is delightful and the food is delicious. The icing on the cake is the warm and friendly staff. Wow Yelp. You really led me astray this time around. Was in town for a half marathon and needed a good italian spot to carb up. Picked this place soley on a 4.5 starr rating and it looked promising from the reviews that yelp seem to filter on its mobile app. There was also a $20 deal. We read the yelp deal and it stated 1 deal per person and wanted to confirm with the wait staff. Waiter said yes, we can both purchase the coupon. So that means $80 meal for $40 which we thought was a really great deal. Well when the bill came, the waiter retracted that what he meant was each person can buy the coupon but you can only use 1 coupon PER visit. Ok, well if that was the case, we wouldn't have ordered such mediocore food to add up at $80 nor wasted energy to both purchase the deal. It felt like the old switch and bait tactic. In the end, it was never about the money, it's about the principle. If the deal clearly states 1 per person and not 1 per visit, then reconfirmed with the waiter, in the end they should have honored the deal but instead recanted. Overall, the food really was not worth 4.5 stars but the wait staff was very attentive and friendly. I would give the service 4 stars. Perhaps it was that we didnt order the right thing? I ordered the linguine with clams and my cousin ordered the carbonara. Both dishes were subpar. The highlight to our menu were the salads which were actually delicious. The arugula, canned beet, and feta salad had a great balsamic dressing. The spinach and bacon salad was also good. The caprese was a well executed caprese.

Thank you to fellow yelpers for recommending the polenta with Gorgonzola cream sauce to die for. I love the fact that you can split salads we had the wedge and it was fantastic the pasta is a lot and so far I would just say OK. The bread with the gremolata is absolutely delicious that alone is worth five stars. I bought the yelp deal it was fantastic service and wonderful. Truly worth the drive if you live around here. Next time we will split the polenta appetizer and a salad and have the bread and that's it it's so delicious. GO

Everything was excellent- the homemade bread with tepenade, split pea soup, fettuccini gamberi and the pasta with wild boar sausage and mushroom sauce. They seriously need to turn the music down. What could have been a pleasant dining experience was overshadowed by the music blaring. It feels like they are trying to attract the sports bar crowd with baseball on the TV behind the bar and the blaring music. Better suited for lunch than for dinner.

we were looking for an italian restaurant the evening before the Gran Fondo and we were all, seven of us, very happy we found this friendly family run restaurant. We agree with all the positive reviews we read, wonderful staff, great bread and tapenade, and the dishes were excellent. I was cargo loading so I had Linguine with pesto sauce and lots of parmesan cheese. Others had gnocchi and other sauces, but all were very happy. Look forward to visiting again.

I absolutely love this restaurant! I've been there 3 times in about 5 years (we live in WA). They have FREE gluten free pasta! I have never heard of such a thing. Everyone loved their food on our last visit. We even received a free tiramisu because the chocolate crème brulle we ordered was sold out! From the initial welcome, to the service throughout the meal, to the kiss on the cheek and warm hug as I left, they made me feel like family. Every time I visit the Sonoma area, I plan to return for a reunion with my Italian "family".

The service was good. We came in around 7pm on a summer Saturday evening, the place was only half full, so we got seated right away. But it was so loud we could barely keep a conversation going. I got a caesar salad. It was ok. I got half orders of pasta for my kids, and I ordered the cheese raviolis. The kids plates had much more food than my entree. The raviolis weren't bad, but there was only 5 of them, swimming in a boring marinara sauce without a chunk of tomato in it. I spent $7 on a salad, $15 on an entree and I was still quite hungry after I'd eaten every bite. My kids liked their food. It wasn't terrible, I just felt that $22 worth of food should have at least filled me up. I'm not a big guy with a huge appetite. I will not be going back. If you go, don't get the ravioli if you're hungry.

The best Italian restaurant we have been to. Excellent food & excellent service! The Polenta was out of this world as was the Pasta Bolognese & the arugula salad! WOW! We will be back for sure with friends!

Excellent service. Went on a Monday night and unfortunately there was a drunk guy who kept on a conversation with the owner by yelling to him at the bar. I had called asked if the raviolis were homemade and was told " umm, I think so by some female." So do you think you like could have checked? I should have asked but instead we just decided to go check it out. Raviolis are not homemade by taste- sauce was good but not impressed by the ravioli taste or texture. Very generous with olive walnut sauce and focaccia bread but too too oily and much on my system- upset tummy for 24 hours. Hubs loved his dinner ( seafood pasta) and did not have an adverse GI reactions. Spot is clean, nice atmosphere ( when drunk man not screwing behind you) and excellent service from our guy server.

If you want authentic Italian food go here. I would recommend reservations because they get very busy. If you do need it wait it's worth it! Looking forward to going back!

Great little place for a glass of wine and tasty Italian. Came here after work with a few friends for a casual drink and ended up staying for dinner. Attentive service, clean dining room and overall pleasant experience. The complimentary bread and garlic tapenade were wonderful. All the pasta dishes we ordered were delicious. Coming back for sure.

Found this place via yelp. The reviews looked really good and there was a yelp deal- bonus! On arrival, the place was pretty lively and there was a good atmosphere. The service was very fast and questions were well-answered. We were promptly served freshly baked bread along with a basil pesto dipping oil. It was very tasty. I ordered an old vine Zinfandel (Regio) and it was really good. We had a couple of appetizers, the butternut squash soup and also the arugula, beet and feta cheese salad and they were both divine. For the entree, I ordered the spaghetti puttanesca and I asked for the anchovies to be held on the side as I wasn't sure if I like them. It was really good. Overall great meal and I am looking forward to going back soon.

I live 2 miles away from this restaurant and the other night was the first time I ate there! Loved it, it was delicious! Great prices and the service was wonderful. It is really refreshing to eat somewhere where the staff pays attention to you. I Can't wait to go back!

I am a user and abuser of Yelp and have never written a review, but after visiting Trattoria Cattaneo I felt the need to give them the 5 stars they deserve. My girlfriend and I purchased the Yelp deal for this place after reading the other fantastic reviews. The food was very traditional and tasty. I had the Chicken Piccata, my favorite Italian dish, and my girlfriend had Chicken Alfredo. Each were delicious and full of true Italian flavor. What truly made this a stand out and worth my writing of this review was the service. The wait staff was amazing and very courteous and attentive. The hook, line, and sinker was the bartender who was saying hello to everyone in the restaurant like he had known them his whole life. He also brought us two complementary tastings of a Moscato which was delicious. Check it out, well worth it...even the free bread is worth the visit.

Amazing food and even better service! We were here for my brother's 21st birthday and they went out of their way to make it special. Everyone is so incredibly nice here. Wish I loved closer so I could come again and again! Robert, you were amazing - Thank you!!!

Tucked away in a strip mall this Italian trattoria could have been in Italy! The insalata was an excellent mix of greens with feta and strawberries with a light, flavorful vinegrette. Everyone at my table was thrilled with their meal. I had Linguine con Vongole, linguine with clams, in a spicy white wine garlic sauce. I had to restrain myself from lifting the bowl, and slurping down the delicious sauce. Another of us had the special pasta of the night, an angel hair with prawns and tomatoes. The pasta was piled high and enough to feed two, and extraordinarily scrumptious. My other friends had eggplant parmigiana and lasagna, and they both raved about it. The house wine was also excellent. The place was a bit noisy and that would be the only downside to this place. I would definitely come again and again. Try it! You'll like it!

Fantastic dinner and customer service! They were out of the steak special but our waiter apologized and brought us bruschetta on the house. Heavy pours of wine and delicious food, as close to Italy as one could ask for in California. The entire staff, particularly our waiter, really made the experience. Visiting from San Diego, but will definitely be back on the next trip out!

Everyone who enters this establishment is personally greeted by Riccardo, the owner. He makes you feel like family. The food is among the best Italian in Sonoma County. It is a bit noisy, but that adds to the experience.

I went here on a recommendation, the place is small and a little bright. These are my only things I'd have to that are anywhere near negative. I'd go here now before LoCoco's Cocina Rustica. Food was awesome, everyone was friendly and I'm coming back here.

We made reservations, as we heard they could get busy. If we hadn't had reservations, we would have turned around and left as soon as we walked in the door. The din was SO LOUD you couldn't hear yourself think, let alone hear the waiter or others in your party at the table. I don't mean "we're all having fun" loud; I mean jet engine revving next to your head loud. Seriously, it's ridiculous. And the place was only about 4/5 full. Just so you don't think I'm some oldster who can't handle a little noise, I am a hardcore rock fan and go to shows all the time, leaning on the stage if I can get that close. I can definitely handle volume, like 10th row for Metallica. But that's not what I'm looking for over a dinner out with relatives. It was so loud, I guess no one really noticed when a kid a couple of tables away started continuously shrieking at the top of his/her lungs. After maybe ten minutes of this, someone from the restaurant finally asked them to take the kid outside. Whew! On the bright side, from what we could hear of the waiter, he seemed quite friendly. Unfortunately, it took about 45 minutes from being seated until we finally got our food. He kept bringing us bread and balsamic so we didn't starve, but we didn't go out to just eat bread. At least by the time the food finally came, the place was maybe only a fifth full, and you could actually talk to others at your table. And to be fair, the food wasn't bad. Nothing special, but quite reasonable. So, to recap, I would maybe get take-out from here. They seem like nice people and the food is okay. But I would NEVER eat in there again, ever.

We enjoyed our dinner here! They offer a somewhat simple menu - bruschetta, caprese, a few salad options, mix-and-match pastas/sauces, eggplant parm, et cetera...what I would call traditional Italian-American fare. Nothing fancy. And it's all delicious. Husband had the special: linguini with shrimp in a lemon cream sauce; I opted for fettucine alfredo. We also shared a Caesar salad - the Caesar dressing was *phenomenal,* subtle and authentically flavored - and a Spinaci salad, and then split an order of tiramisu for dessert. Neither of us eats meat so I can't comment on their meatballs or meat-based sauces, but I can say that I was absolutely stuffed and practically had to roll myself out the door. Just. Couldn't. Stop. Eating. it was SO yummy. So - in summary - not a huge menu, but everything we ordered was great - definitely the kind of place you want to go for serious carb- and fat- loading! Service was attentive and super-friendly. We don't eat a lot of pasta these days, but if we're having a craving, we'll definitely come back.

This was our second time here in two weeks. We had friends come in from out of down.We had a such a wonderful dinner the first time we had to go back and take them. The owner and his brother make you feel like your family. The food was amazing. The bread with olive tapenade was yummy. The salad was good, very fresh. All of the entrees were perfect. We will be back.

I rarely give five stars to any restaurant in here but this one is worthy. A classic small Italian restaurant with nice decor that is run by a very courteous and attentive staff. I would come back here just to get the great service again, but the food is also exceptional. The bread, the salads and lasagna were tops with huge portions to boot. Everything was good.

    (5)
  • Hank S.

Food and service is great. Prices are reasonable. We will be eating there again. We had the chicken parmigiana, seafood pasta, and salads. All were incredible. Their bread and tapenade are the best. Portion sizes are generous. We each took some home and had second meals from them.

So great to have a local restaurant where you really feel like family. Had lunch there recently with a group of girlfriends and I had the polenta with gargonzola and walnuts (I know..evil calories!!) and it was superb. Super place in Bennett Valley!

We had a wonderful night tonight. We were looking for a romantic night away from our hometown in Los Angeles. We had Jorge who was a fantastic waiter. Food was excellent and he gave us enough time to ourselves to have a very special night but also was very attentive and was always there when we needed him. He gave us multiple recommendations about wine and food pairings and at the end of the night when we called him over to give him feedback he pulled up a chair to listen. This is the essence of a wonderful family run Italian restaurant.

Everything was delicious! Pesto with chicken, cheese ravioli with marinara sauce , carafe of wine, spaghetti with anchovies. I'm telling you to please go here because it's so delicious. Plates can be split and make sure to use the yelp deal $20 for $40 worth of food !

Still the best! We stopped in to split a plate of pasta for dinner and had the special of Linguini w/ Salmon & Scallops. WOW. We hadn't been in there in over 2 months and right when we walked in its was like we were family again. Love the food, love the people.

This place seems to be popular with the locals. I'm from the los Angeles area and comparing to some of my favorite Italian food spots I would say it's a good place to try, if you're in the area and in need of big portions and good food. Its hard to give it a 5 star review because it wasn't a place were I would go out of my way to eat again.

Please note this review is actually made by heather garcia. We saw this place had a deal on yelp and tired of the hit and miss @ olive garden we decided to try. We were greeted a little awkardly, yes can i help you? Ahh ok clearley @ a restaurant to eat. We were sat promptly, and had water and bread fast, i was impressed bread and the spread, very good. Our drink order was taken got drinks fast, i could sit here and write every interaction with the staff so far it would take to long, the waiters seem to be men and boy do they all know customer service. The restaurant its self is small very tight space, and its loud, you have to kind of yell to talk to the person next to you. The spinach salad, omg so good! Its a must have. Perfect blend of flavors. I discovered im not a fan of lamb not their fault it was my 1st time trying it. Everything was so good. I would highly recomend!!!!! They even box your left overs for you! Wow.

  • Erik N.

We found the food average and the service quite friendly, so 3.5. The bread was unremarkable and a bit dry. My Caesar salad had a bland flavorless dressing. I ordered the meat ravioli, which were good, but the chunks of meat in the sauce were on the large side and the sauce was acidic. I like a tangy sauce with my ravioli. My wife ordered the seafood linguini special, which she enjoyed and the shrimp seemed very fresh. One friend ordered the gnocchi, which are as many stated fluffy and large, like chunks of banana. She said she preferred them small, like when made from teaspoons. Other friend had penne bolognese. He was not that impressed with it. The ambiance is more like a pub than a trattoria, loud and sparsely decorated. There are other Italian restaurants in the area we like better.

Went there on a Yelp deal. Service persons were interesting. One of them seemed to be the owner. Food was 60's style home cooked. Would go again if other places were closed and I could get a Yelp deal again. Wasn't bad - worth a try.

This place is therapeutic. My husband and I come here often when we need to unwind. We have never had a bad experience. The food is excellent. The staff is warm and feels like family. The value is priceless. The surface is a tiny strip mall but the atmosphere is mama and papa's big family gathering. Let's have some good food and enjoy the evening.

Family owned and operated, and it shows in the care they take with their food, and how they treat customers like family. I am not a huge fan of Marinara sauce usually but theirs is an exception. It's bright, fresh, and light. My favorite dish so far has been the veal cannelloni with Marinara. The pappardelle with boar sausage in a cream sauce is a close second though. The salads are wonderful too, especially one I recently had as a special with strawberries, pomegranate, pecans, and blue cheese finished with a delightful zingy champagne vinaigrette. They have a nice wine selection for those of you who like such things and they really fill the glasses. The desserts are a perfect finish, especially the in house made gelato and sorbets.

Service was great, food was yummy! They also offered lots of vegetarian options. I was impressed that as soon as my friend said she was a vegetarian they offered to add veggies to her pasta instead of meat.

The food was outstanding. Everyone here was so friendly and it felt like a mom and pops joint (which I love). I read reviews before coming here and I saw some negative comments. I don't know what these people had or maybe it was just a bad day for them, but I had the chicken fettucini Alfredo and it was amazing! I WILL be coming back for more!

Disappointed. We ate here last year when we were in town, and LOVED it, but this time was a major letdown. Chose to go here again based on last time's experience and also the fact that they had a great yelp deal. We ordered our food for take-out. The Alfredo was just ok, needed salt and was not as good as last time. Boyfriend had the bolognese and he described it as "yuck". The dessert we had was good.. Not great, but definitely better than the pasta.

  • Emma H.

Although there were parts of my dining experience that missed the mark, I want to update my review and make it known that the obvious potential of this restaurant coupled with the owner/chef's genuine concern about her diners' experiences have made me eager to try it again and get a taste of what this cute little spot really has to offer. After writing my previous review, the owner/chef contacted me personally and apologized profusely. She cared so much about my experience that she offered to void our credit card statement from the night! I graciously declined and she asked for my info to mail me a gift card. It's that kind of customer care that shows me this business owner is clearly passionate about pleasing her patrons. Can't wait to give it another shot very soon!

Came here for my boyfriend and I's anniversary. I was craving Italian food and saw this place that had a $20 for $40 and had amazing ratings! What can go wrong?! We walked in at 8:30pm on a Monday and it was pretty busy but we got greeted by a young lady and she sat us down. Shortly we had a bus boy that reminds me of Mario Lopez, I wonder if he gets that a lot? Anyways, our server was a short stalky Hispanic man that took our order, not sure if it's his personality or he had an off night but he seemed as if he was rushing us. The food, I ordered a penne with marinara sauce and chicken while the boyfriend ordered lasagna. My food came out well! I was impressed, maybe a little more seasoning but other than that I was very happy! My boyfriend on the other hand didn't enjoy the food since in the middle of his lasagna was pretty cold and he couldn't eat anymore. It's unfortunate because the dish looked nice. We decided to leave knowing that I didn't use up my $40. The owner talked me into having Nutella cake which looked good! I haven't tried it yet but he seemed warming! I enjoyed the fact that there were personal family photos on the wall. It shows that he's put his blood, sweat, and tears into this restaurant. I like that. I would come here again!

The Italian cibo (food) is wonderful and you will leave feeling like family. Pastas and sauces are homemade. Salads are great portions with excellent dressing options. The wine selection is great and abundant and all desserts are phenomenal! I have been back, and back, and back, and plan on continuing that tradition. Love the Trattoria Cattaneo!

I was very disappointed as I had heard great things about the restaurant. My boyfriend and I got there at about 7pm. It was busy but we were seated immediately. That's about where the good part ended. It took 45 minutes for us to get our food and when we did it was cold. The waiter was nice enough to send my order back but he was not very attentive for the evening. My boyfriend did not enjoy the veal, comparing it to Chef Boyardee, the waiter did take it off our check. Service-not attentive but nice Food-took a long time and came out cold Overall not a great date night, the bf ended up grabbing chips from CVS.

Let me first say this place is NOT fancy schmancy...if you are looking for that go somewhere else, there are lots of great ones in the area. But if you are looking to see, feel and eat like you have just walked into someone's home either in Italy or Italian American, than this is the spot for you. Great local vibe, and you feel like a local within the first few minutes. Nice wine list, you can bring your own with a corkage, this always works for us! We have had the gnocchi a couple of times, and love it to pieces..it is rich and fluffy. After each bite I think I can't possible eat one more...and I always do! We have tried the Cioppino a few times, always hits the mark, the salads are perfectly dressed. We have taken friends who were gluten free, and their pasta needs were met. Bottom line, we have never had a bad meal, or left with a bad feeling, we are always happy to share our local find with anyone!! All in all, I always feel like I got value in both food and 'good feelings'! And the owner coming out to kiss me goodbye doesn't hurt:)

Outstanding food, my family and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. The salads were fabulous, my vinaigrette with strawberries was delicious. I had bolognese with meatballs on penne, and tasted penne with pesto and their eggplant parmigiana. All were excellent, with perhaps the parmigiana my favorite. Our server was very friendly, fast, and attentive. We will be back there soon.

I crave Italian food a lot, so while away on business, my sweet hubby found this place on yelp. It's a small, quaint restraunt. All of the staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. The pasta was great and the waiter was always close by for refills and anything else we needed. My only concern was the noise level because it is a small place. It didn't bother my hubby but if you want a quiet dinner this wouldn't work for you. If in the area again, we'd definitely be back!

We came in at 8:30 so we didn't expect perfect service but it was very good. I can deal with that but then I got my food and it would have been very good if it wasn't cold. I don't think I would come back here again.

Such a hidden gem! A beautiful mural transports you to Italyesque setting, made ask the more authentic by the best Italian food around, especially the pasta dishes! Do I have to give them a star? We had a reservation for 6 people and arrived early for our seating. They had a table set in the entry-way where the overflow from the bar was hanging out, which was totally unacceptable. We waited for another to open up, and as the hostess was seating us the owner interrupted saying he was saving it for his friends who had not yet arrived. As one of the other reviewers indicated, the owner looks out for his friends. Woe to those who are not. We decided to leave and went to Johnny Garlic instead. I'll look elsewhere next time I'm thinking Italian.

By far one of the best Italian places I've eaten at in years short of going to Italy and eating there. The owner and staff really make you feel welcome and are very thoughtful and generous people. You can't go wrong eating here. I could eat here every day.

What a great experience! Love this restaurant. Lots of family pictures on the wall. It was packed, but service was excellent. All of the staff was attentive and our waiter was knowledgeable and friendly. I had the lasagna and hubby had the gnocchi bolognese. Both were great but I give the win to the lasagna. Portion was large so I had lunch the next day. :). We had two glasses of wine (generous pours) and each ordered dessert, for under $70, a steal! I had a fruit crisp that was delish and hubby had the tiramisu which may have been the best we ever had. Overall, we highly recommend and can't wait to return.

This is a family owned and operated restaurant whose staff really makes you feel like part of the family! We have been several times and each time the owner remembers us and is always so warm and welcoming. He personally greets each of his customers and tries to converse with each of them, as well. Its nice not to feel like you're just a number. The food here is AMAZING! Best Italian restaurant in the area by far! The chicken parm is my favorite dish! Each of the desserts are handmade daily and are equally as amazing as their main dishes! We recommend this place to everyone, it's so good!

Ahhhhmazing!!! One of the best meals and experiences I've had at a restaurant in Santa Rosa! The atmosphere is homey, a little cramped, but comfortable. The bread they bring out at the beginning of service is to die for, and so is the olive tapenade! We had three baskets between the two of us!!!! They have a no corkage few for two bottles of wine which makes me very happy! We got bruschetta to start, it was flavorful and delicious, a little on the oily side for my liking so I'd probably try a different appetizer next time. Then for our entrees we ordered the lasagna and chicken fettuccine Alfredo. Both were absolutely amazing. We would get both again but everything looked so good on the menu, we'll have to try something new next time! Finally we got the cobbler to share. It was a little small but we were both so stuffed it was okay!!! The only thing I have to complain about is the bathroom is in the kitchen and there is only one single room for both genders. Just a little awkward walking into the kitchen and I had a line of people waiting for me as I walked out. In all an amazing experience and we will definitely be back.

  • Dusti W.

Absolutely amazing! The cuisine is JAW DROPPING! The gnocchi was amazing and the chicken parm was HUGE! The bread they give you before your meal is unlike any bread before it looks like pound cake! Soooooooo good! Finished with the warm chocolate torte ..a little too rich for me but then again I'm not a chocolate fan so that is probably why. But I would definitely be coming back again!

Great food and great service! We had the gnocchi and lasagna and and both were fantastic, I sometimes forget about this little place tucked away but am always very pleased when I do. They are always very friendly and make you feel welcome, service has always been fast as well. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for an authentic Italian meal.

Purchased a Yelp deal and went to this restaurant last week. I got the Lasagna and a friend got the Chicken Parmesan. Both were excellent dishes with huge portions. I felt like I was back in Italy. For desert I had the Tiramisu and friend got Creme Brulee. Both choices were really good and portions for dessert were big too; we could not finish. The service was excellent. They checked up on us regularly and filled our water. We sat way in the back and were not forgotten about. The only negative was a pesky fly that would not leave us alone. Probably wouldn't sit in the back again.

Had my birthday dinner here last night (10 people) it was DELICIOUS!!! My BF and I split a lazagnia and the special - roast pork ragu over pasta. OMG the richness of the sauces and the flavors were phenomenal! My sister said 'taste the mashed potatoes' so i did and they had flavor out of this world - rosemary and sage I think...I've had herbed potatoes before but not as good as these. I'm finishing up my leftovers for a late breakfast :) The wait staff and owners are exceptional and the only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars is for the noise level. I like a noisy restaurant, but this was too much...my sister was covering her ears. They need - and I hope the owners read this - baffles on the ceiling to help cut the noise a little. It's Italian, it's noisy...I get it...I'm Italian. But, it's unpleasant when you are out enjoying dinner with friends and family and cannot visit with them easily. We will be back - maybe at a time when it's not so crowded - if there is such a thing! :)

From the moment we walked through the door we were greeted by the owner, then the hostess, then our waiter all before we even sat down. Our waiter was very prompt and helpful with his service. The food was excellent. The mista salad, a very simple salad, had a tasty dressing that made it into a wonderful salad. The pasta was cooked perfectly. Overall it was the atmosphere that really made this a great place to go whether it's for a casual meal, or a romantic date. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Not a lot to say about this place that hasn't been said already, but this spot has quickly and justifiably become the best family-style Italian restaurant in the North Bay. The owners are the friendliest damn people on the planet. Both of the brothers who own the place genuinely want you to have a wonderful experience each and every time you set foot in their restaurant, and they have succeded every time I've been to Trattoria Cattaneo. Again, since everybody has already said everything that needs to be said about this place, i'll just quickly go over my own personal restaurant highlights. Bruschetta and caprese salad are pre-pasta musts! It doesn't matter which pasta combo you choose because it's going to be absurdly delicious either way (Their pesto is my favorite!). They give awesomely generous pours on all of their wines, and the in-house made desserts are all outstanding. Food: 4.5/5 Ambiance: 5/5 Service: 6/5 ~~~~~~~~ OVERALL: 5/5

Wanted to try one of our neighborhood spots. Service was great and friendly - well paced and attentive but not overdone. However our two dinners would not put this on one of our top spots. My gnocchi were gloppy (perhaps freshly made but did not seem to be cooked sufficiently) and my wife's canneloni came heavily glopped with mozzarella cheese on top (despite the server saying the only cheese was the ricotta inside). Both had the meat sauce heavily spiced with cumin, which reminded us more of Mexican ground beef burritos rather than Italian. House chianti by the glass, half carafe or carafe was decent and reasonably priced.

We thought this restaurant was just fine. Tasty food, not objectionable atmosphere. Very nice staff. If you are in the mood for Italian and you are in the area, give it a try. I would not make the drive back out there though. Husband loved the focaccia bread. The wedge salad was good. The chicken piccata was lemony. The veal saltimbocca was too peppery as were the zucchini that came with both meals. The lemon cake was hard as a rock (they apologized profusely and said it should have been warmed.) The chocolate torte was by no means decadent, just okay. Just a nice, okay place.

Excellent service and friendly accommodating staff (5 stars). Food was really good, but not any better than other Italian places we've been to around here (La Vera, Riviera Ristorante). The wine (Sangiovese, but I can't remember the vineyard) was really nice and mellow and it complemented the Linguine Vongole nicely.

Polenta with the creamy Gorgonzola was literally the best polenta dish I've ever had! I read a review about how great their balsamic was so I asked for an additional little side of it and added that to my dish- superb! Can't wait to go back & get it again.

Don't be fooled by the strip mall exterior, this place has great authentic food, reasonable prices, an Italian feel /atmosphere, and really excellent service. ....no really the service was the perfect blend of personal attention and good food and wine knowledge and a relaxed atmosphere top enjoy your meal. Enjoy!

Great lunch with my Auntie!! The owner greeted us served us and made us feel at home. We were on our way to Glen Ellen for a spa experience. Logged onto Living Social and found this gem. The special was a chicken pesto ravioli that was made by the chef (wife and co-owner) Super delicious and al dente...real Italian beer on tap and Auntie had a fine local Merlot. Family pictures on the wall and just want to give kudos to this restaurant. We will be back. BRAVO

One of my absolute favorite places ive ever been. Everything is housemade. NEVER EVER disappointed with the meals. I love the staff. They have become my second italian family. I love everything. Can get a bit loud at times but that's because everyone's having a fantastic time. GO GET SOME :) (I recommend, the wedge salad, the bruceta, the cheese ravioli, and the SOUPS ARE AMAZING :)

Why did I go? My mom knew the owners from a previous restaurant as I recall so I may be a little biased in my review :) What did I order? I've had most of the things on the menu at this point and everything is very well prepared and excellently seasoned. Some of my favorites: Tiramisu - it's a great balance of a nice coffee bitterness in the spongy ladyfingers to a sweet, rich, silky texture of the mascarpone. Capellini Pomodoro - this is my favorite dish in general and the one from here does not disappoint. It's always prepared al dente and the sauce is light but flavorful and delivers the perfect fresh tomato flavor. Roasted chicken - I'm a white meat fan, so when you get a succulent chicken breast that has a very plain seasoning to really bring out that chicken fat flavor, I can ask for no more. Caprese Salad - during the summer when it's 100+ and tomatoes are in season, this is their best dish, but what really impresses me is how consistent this is in the fall and winter. Tomatoes when it's cold out are usually awful bright orange hot house monstrosities, but not here! Was it worth it? It's a little on the expensive side for the portions you're getting, but it's worth the extra for high quality fresh ingredients and excellent preparation to go with it. Cool spot? They've got fantastic ambiance, mood lighting, pictures of the family on the walls, it feels like you're inside someone's home. It's definitely cozy and gets pretty crowded when all the tables are full, but because it has that family dining room feel, I think that just makes it better! Gonna go back? I come back here whenever I come home. They treat you like family and the food is top notch.

THIS PLACE DOES IT RIGHT!!! - within 20 seconds of being seated we had our water. - I drink a LOT of water so I downed mine as soon as I got it. They refilled it moments later! I got my water and had it refilled. Ten times as fast as I usually get water! - the bread and olive oil/herb dip was amazing. They also put that out very quickly and kept it refilled. - the staff was very friendly, sounded very professional when describing the special for the day. - food came out fairly fast. - I got the tortellini, which sadly hardly had very much. At $15 this was not a good deal. Tasted good though - my gf got pesto linguine which tasted great but she had 5 times the serving I did for only $10. - we got out to go box and they put our food in for us. - they cleared the bread from the table and asked if they cold put the rest in our box. Not only did they out it in, they refilled our bread. Great service, great food, wish the servings were bigger on some items

In a mini-shopping mall out of the way from central Santa Rosa but feels as dining in a friend's home. Great service w/no 'up selling'. Just good description of menu and waiter took my request for capers on seafood salad was delicious. House made ingredients make dishes all the better. Broad Italian wine choices. Hope to return when in Santa Rosa.

The strip mall convenience did this place no favors ! The service was great but I believe the food needed more flavor! Though the yelp 20 for 40 deal was nice!

This place was really loud, which made it difficult to have a conversation with my date. I ordered chicken parmagiana, which was pretty good. They gave us complimentary dessert wine, which was very nice of them, but I actually don't drink, so it was a waste.

I went here for my birthday a couple of days ago. I found it on Yelp, and with all the amazing reviews, I thought we couldn't go wrong... The food and the service were okay-- while the family/staff were extremely friendly, we waited for our food for over 45 minutes, and there really were only a few tables with people sitting at them. I probably would not choose to go back before trying some other Italian places in Santa Rosa. Cute local place if you want a quiet lunch or dinner...not a very extensive menu. You basically choose what kind of sauce you want and on what kind of pasta.

Loved it. My first time won't be my last. I had beef ravioli. Excellent. My husband had fettuccine with chicken and that was outstanding as well. Great service and relaxed ambience. I'd go back again today if I could.

Wife and I dropped in without a reservation last night, but we're able to get two seats at the bar. That provided us with a perspective we had not had before, as we got to sit with some regulars, and were served by Dana, a real nice pro who serviced the bar customers and made sure all our needs were met. Several times when a new bottle of wine was opened, we were offered a taste to compare to the wines we had ordered for dinner. As always, we had great food provided to us. What a great place to have consistently great food and service. One of my favorites is the classic chicken Parmesan. My wife's is the linguine with clams. We like to start with the wedge salad. Also impressed by the owners, who literally have walked out the door to thank us for our business as we left. You can't go wrong, but I have to say that they have become so popular that you should go on weekdays for the obvious risk of being overcrowded on the weekends.

I want to thank Riccardo and Julie for helping me organize a funeral reception on short notice. We have been neighborhood customers for quite awhile and every time we have been there they go above and beyond especially on that late afternoon. It was already a stressful day and they really made everything so much easier on me. The several appetizers that I had pre-ordered and the service was just wonderful! Especially the service from Riccardo, Mario, Julie and Robert. This is like a home away from home and the Cattaneo's are like family. Thank you so much! We'll be back very soon!

Rarely a week goes by that wife and I don't stroll down to our favorite neighborhood restaurant . Seafood pasta special was delicious as are all items on the menu. Sitting at the bar, also allowed us to watch our favorite baseball team, the Giants, win another ballgame on the big screen. Great food, service, wine and baseball, does it get much better here in Bennett Valley?

This place has gone seriously down hill. I went to dinner with my mother and we both ordered the seafood salad and I had the minestrone soup and she had the polenta. The soup was meh and her polenta didn't come until after the salad had already been served. Her polenta that was eventually served (after asking the waiter twice where it was) was salty and just plain unappealing. Our salads were just piles of mushy squid on lettuce that was drowned in a super sweet dressing. The food was just nasty to be completely honest, or at least what we ordered. I've heard that their pasta is ok. To make matters worse, both she and I got sick from the seafood. Won't be eating here ever again.

It is a fantastic local place to get great food and see people you know. Ricardo, Julie and the rest of the staff are friendly and provide great service. My favorite is the wedge salad and the polenta appetizer. It is even nice to pop in for a pint or glass of red.

Very friendly atmosphere and great service but the food was just ok. I love pesto but the pesto here was way too salty, too much dressing on the Caesar salad and very fishy. Lasagna was mediocre, guess LoCoco Cucina and Graziano's have spoiled us for lasagna. Disappointed for our first visit here.

I had linguini and clams...absolutely the best blend of seasoning and broth. Not fancy but excellent service, the owner/manager is there and engaged and I'd say the best Italian in town. FAR superior to Loco's where I had a similar dish that was on the dry side and cost more. It's better to do a few things very well than trying to cover the bases and be average! I'll be back!

I was hard pressed deciding to give this place a 4 or 5. I had the Marinara sauce with Meatball. The sauce needed just a dash of salt which I added at the table and the meatball was very good but not the best I have ever had. The Bruschetta was the best and has a balsamic drizzle which was out of the world. My wife had Bolognese with Chicken and a salad that was fantastic. They give you bread with with a olive spread that I could not get enough of and the service WOW the service was GREAT. I will return and have a different dish and I think I will be able to update to a 5.

What An amazing find. Truly authentic Italian place in the middle of Santa Rosa. Owners actually speak my language, but most importantly, food was top notch. Had a shrimp and tomato salad which was to die for.. Maybe best I've ever tasted. Gnocchi to follow which were also very well made. Bread was a bit dry, but not enough to make me dislike this place. Ill return any time in Santa Rosa. Great bar atmosphere also.

SO GOOD! Athough unassumingly located in a strip mall, this place is an absolute gem. Service is fantastic and they really do treat you like family. The menu isn't super extensive, concentrating mainly on pastas and Italian standards, like the fantasticly simply Eggplant parmesan that I ordered. Start first with the in-house made focaccia and delicious walnut, black olive spread that they bring to the table. I honestly could have made a meal out of just the bread and dip, it was absolutely addictive. The pastas were all fantastic. Gnocci was pillowy and probably the best I've ever tasted. Fettucini Alfredo with Prawns was creamy and the prawns were enormous and cooked perfectly. My parents have recently moved to the neighborhood and are already hooked, dining here weekly. I have a feeling that I'll be heading here on a regular basis now too. Family-run by the Cattaneo's who were all extremely warm and funny. The owner himself held the door open for us as we waddled out into the evening, fat and happy.

You know the feeling when you're eating a plate of food, and you're so full that you're about to die? But you keep shoveling it in because of how delicious it is? But you also want to stop eating it so you can bring leftovers home and eat it again later? But you just keep eating it because you can't decide what to do and you don't care if your stomach busts out of your pants? Such a beautiful dilemma and a total first-world problem. I came here with my grandparents and although it was busy, service was so-so (the owner is great, however), the menu's were greasy, and it was louuuud, we had a great time because the food was just that special. The gnocchi is ultra fluffy - little heavenly pillows. The carbonara is a pig's worst nightmare and a meat-eater's dream. The marinara sauce on the cheese ravioli made a believer out of me. I'm excited to come back when it's a little less busy/crowded/noisy so I can really enjoy myself. And not just my gluttony.

Great!! Loved everything! Spinach salad excellent, polenta was great, bread and dipping garnish yummy. Ravioli good - made even better with some of the polenta sauce. And the eggplant Parmesan was good - but to tell you the truth we were pretty full by the time we got to it.

There is something truly special about sitting down in a restaurant and feeling like you are the guest of honor. Each time we have had the pleasure of eating at Trattoria Cattaneo, Riccardo and Julie make us feel like they are so happy we are there that they treat us like royalty. The best part is then looking around and seeing that they're treating EVERYONE like that! As my family in the South would say, "Y'all really put out the dog for us!" The menu has all the standards, from mix-and-match pasta and sauce, to meat lasagna and roast chicken, but that's not what you're here for. You want the special, always. Everything from pumpkin gnocchi w/ sage brown butter to pasta pomodoro w/ tomato, basil and prawns, Julie's daily creations never fail. Also, try the soup...you won't be disappointed. Last night was Italian squash and potato, which was delicious. As an added bonus, Julie always has gluten-free options available! The bottom line is this: If you want good food, plenty of it, and to be treated like it is a special occasion just for you to have walked through the door, this is the place to be. From Riccardo's first, "Ciao, Bella!" of the evening, to the final handshake and, "Thank you. Thank you, my friends!" you feel like, "Wow, these people are really happy I'm here." In my book, that is the definition of hospitality. Riccardo and Julie, I now consider you my friends, and I am so incredibly pleased by your success! You have a wonderful family and a wonderful restaurant, and I wish you all the best.

Great Place. Nice to see a family-run business in a nice community such as Santa Rosa. I got to know Ricardo when his sons Dante and Guiliano were attending a football camp at neighboring Montgomery High School. I've eaten at the restaurant several times and everything has been very fresh and good. When they started off it wasn't that busy, but now, even on weeknights, it's always busy- they've made a name for themselves in the local area. My favorites were the Pasta Carbonara and the Seafood Salad- both excellent. And the Bruschetta is magnificent. There is a small bar where you can leisurely drink beer, wine, or soda, and watch a ball game on their flat screen TV. Highly Recommended.

I came here with my boyfriend for lunch. The restaurant was empty except for one table during lunchtime. The first thing I noticed was how friendly our waiter was. Yes, he gave us our menus and our drinks and appetizers (and our food of course), but he also conversed with us casually. He was genuinely interested in conversing with his customers. I loved it. The appetizer--bread served with a really delicious spread with olive oil and olives--was DELICIOUS. We asked for two orders more over the course of our meal. Apparently, the spread was home-made. It was simply delicious. I want to come back for more. I ordered Caesar salad from the lunch menu. I normally do not eat salad at restaurants, but I felt like it that day. The Caesar salad was the same size as any other lunch portion plate, which is a lot of food. It was pretty cheesy, but it also tasted extremely fresh. I was very satisfied. I really loved this place and I would definitely come back!!!

Trattoria Cattaneo is nothing short of spectacular! The service, the food, and the ambiance is perfection. This is by far my favorite Italian restaurant ever! The owner, Ricardo, is extremely hospitable and treats every customer as if they are part of his family. All of the recipes for his amazing food were originally created by his grandmother and are currently being cooked by his wife, so one can genuinely feel the heritage and down-home hospitality expected of a meal with friends and family, but with the 5 star+ quality of the food. Do yourself a favor and try either the meat Lasagna (which is true heaven), or the cheese ravioli with the white cream sauce and a drizzle of balsamic on top. Every bite is to die for. I consistently go to Ricardo's every week and it never gets old. In fact, a colleague from work loves the food so much that he literally commutes for more than an hour to enjoy the superb cuisine, almost passes out from how much food he eats, and then drives the hour back to his house. He says that he is literally addicted to the food. Everything here is consistently amazing! For me it is like the Olympics in that every single dish is at least a 9.7 It is so hard to decide on one dish, so typically I will order two or three in order to fully experience the magic of Trattoria Cattaneo's food. Being a huge Italian food fan, I can pretty much guarantee that you will have an enjoyable time.

Best soft and fluffy gnocchi ever!!!!! And the Tiramisu too!! I love the friendly atmosphere, the great food, and the lovely wines...especially the Taft Street Pinot. YUM!! Ricardo is an awesome person. He doesn't let you leave without saying goodbye. Can be packed, but there's obviously a reason for that. Check it out if you haven't already. Assolutamente incredibile!!!

Made 2 calls to make a reservation but no one picked up. So my mom, grandma and I decided to just show up instead and I'm so glad we did. Ricardo asked is if we had a reservation (meanwhile the place was PACKED) I said no but I tried multiple times. With that said we got a table that was most likely reserved but he gave it to us anyways. The service and food was so authentic and fantastic. Ricardo sent us complimentary bruscetta appetizer and white dessert wine for our phone situation earlier, completely unexpected but SO appreciated. This place is so good, service is amazing and authentic (most servers are genuinely of Italian descent) and the food is really good. 10/10 would eat there again.

By all of the glowing reviews given by fellow yelpers you would think this would be a five-star restaurant, it is anything but!! I am a native New Yorker and I've had more than my fair share of excellent Italian meals this is a very low and cheap restaurant with bad wine and poor food. It seems obvious to me the people that gave this Restaurant Glowing reviews would not know good Italian food if it hit them!!!! I am not in the habit of giving scathing reviews but this restaurant deserves it!!!!

Just had the polenta con salsicce and steamed clams.... Good stuff! Ricardo and his wife seem to know how to cater to groups. We are celebrating a friends b-day and are really enjoying the food. Give this place time to develop. The recipes are solid, the sauce is unique.

Great Food, Prices and Service. Eat there for the first time last night with my wife and two friends who live just up the hill from this place. My god just like eating at my Italian grandma's house. Owners are very friendly, service is over the top and OMG the food is to die for. Will be returning in a couple of weeks. Worth the drive. Had roasted chicken, prawns and pasta, meatball, squash soup and a wedge salad with white balsamic reduction. All were over the top good.

We are so glad someone recommended this authentic Italian restaurant to us. We were put in a good mood right away just with the friendly greeting and yummy bread with pesto. Everything was delicious and the staff took excellent care of us. You could tell they value their customers, I heard nearly every other person walking through the door being called by name and greeted with hug. If we lived in the area this would become a regular dinner spot for us.

If you haven't had the cattaneo experience yet..... You are missing out . I took my wife on a quiet Tuesday and was welcomed like family, through the night we were greeted by everybody that was working in the front of the house. We had a heirloom green tomato caprese to start, I make balsamic reduction at home, and to be honest they must use a candy thermometer to make theirs.......perfection tangy and sweet with fresh basil and mozzarella!!! For entrees I had the calamari steak with capers and lemon, penne pasta, and fresh zucchini kissed with onion and tomato cooked lightly to a bright beautiful green. I haven't had calamari that tender, my meal was prepared simply and with great care for flavor texture and fresh ingredients. My wife had the veal canneloni stuffed with ground veal, spinach and ricotta cheese, and topped with a smooth marinara that was clearly house made, needless to say, halfway through I offered to swap!!!! And here is where the evening went from great to over the top, DESSERT! I have cooked professionally, my wife is a restaurant manager , we have eaten a lot of food at many different places, trattoria cattaneo has some of the best desserts either one of us has had in a restaurant, order the semifreddo, order the creme brulee, order the gelato, just do it, unreal......un......real. I like the owner, a lot, I like the staff, heck maybe I'm a little biased, but the food speaks for itself

Trattoria Cattaneo is a treasure hidden in a strip mall. Everything on the menu we've had so far - the lasagne, the roasted chicken, the gnocchi, the homemade pasta, the tiramisu - is excellent. It is our goal to get in there and make sure we've tried it all. We went with friends and had a blast. Our waiter and the owners let us linger long after we were done to enjoy wine and dessert and good times. If there was a six on the rating scale, Trattoria Cattaneo would get it.

I tried after reading a review in Press Democrat newspaper. The paper listed a couple things I am a fan of, good and inexpensive. My family and I ate here on a busy Saturday night, it was reminiscent of a busy San Francisco place. I enjoyed the atmosphere here in laid back Sonoma County. Started with the Antipasta that had a array of different items on the plate. it included a mozzarella -tomato salad, some bruschetta and some shrimp and calamari. It was nice to have such an array. We had the lasagne, Chicken Cannelloni and 1/2 a rotisserie chicken. The food was Ok, the cannelloni was a bit to ricotta cheese to my liking, the lasagna was more pasta then filling and sauce and the chicken was the same as you would find at any safeway with a little better skin. Had tiramisu for dessert, it was great. They also had some other deserts on the menu that sounded really good. I thought the menu was inexpensive but they made up for it in the price of the wine, even though they do pour a big glass of wine. I did not hate it, I thought the employees did a great job, but I will spend a couple of dollars more per dish and go somewhere else in the future. I will go back some time to try some more of the dessert's The olive spread that comes with the bread is good

My friend and I wanted to go to a new place for my birthday, and we found this restaurant on Yelp. So, we went, and it was WONDERFUL! This will now be one of my "usual" places to get fantastic food. The restaurant is in a strip mall, but don't let that put you off. It's really cool and quaint inside, and has a very nice family feel. When we were there, the chef was serving, and she was awesome and friendly-- and we even had some good laughs and talks with her. Their bread with olive tapenade is excellent. Both of us started with their soup of the day, which was tomato. It was INCREDIBLE. Seasoned perfectly, not too creamy, but still rich enough. We also got the Antipasto platter, which is a great deal for the price, and our favorite thing on there was the cantaloupe with prosciutto. Then, I got the Tortellini Romano- wich was EXCELLENT. And my friend got Gnocchi with creamy pesto. It was one of the best pestos I have ever had, and you can actually taste the sunshine in the basil! For dessert, I got chocolate semifreddo. I have never had this anywhere else before, and I am still thinking about it! It was like frozen fudge. It was incredible. This restaurant is a must go. For the food and for the people who run it.

I thought would give this place one more try. We had been there before and had great food, but poor service. My mom had suggested either Mary's or Ca' Bianca, but nooooooo I got my way- and payed for it.

Once again, impeccable! Tonight we had a small Holiday gathering at our house. Julie cooked everything as requested and even offered to deliver it! The meal was as great as the service. If you ever want the best that this town has to offer, you have to enjoy a meal here. Wonderful people and perfectly cooked food. The chicken raviolis are to die for! Thanks Julie for your wonderful service.

Living in Geyserville I have two of the best Italian Resturants within walking distance, but having dined at Trattoria Catteneo, my scope of greatness has expanded. What this resturant excells in is making you feel like you are part of their family, and being taken care of like family. With graciousness and comfort, we were welcomed into the dining room of a family owned, definatly NOT pretencious, outstanding, now one of my new favorite resturants.. Okay, now to the food...the balsamic vinegar used on many dishes has to be one of the best I have ever had, just old enough to be sweet, but not old enough to be syrup, where ever they used it made my mouth come alive. Becks being gluton intollerant was offered almost anything made to dietary needs, with gluton free pasta, Janet had the roast chicken with veggies, done the way an Italian Mama would do, golden and moist, Janet saved some of the olive spread that came with the homemade bread basket, and that sent the chicken into the stratisphere of flavor, I had the gnocchi, lovely puffs of deliciousness surrounded in Gorganzola cheese sauce (my choice, but you choose yours), but the winner dinner had to have Tony's Ciappino (?), outstanding!!! Robust portion, with the seafood and flavor to match. For $15.95...in Geyserville that would be $8-10 higher.. We all shared the wedge salad, an item dreams are made of, they also cut into 4 portions fully dressed, again with gracious courtesy. Lets not forget desert, creme brulee, perfectly crusted, and the afagatto, the only thing that would have made that better would have been fresh whipping creme. We shared excellent wine, delicious food, and the company of good friends all in what is clearly the extension of someone's home! YES, YES,. YES...we will be back.. P.S. if you are looking for hoity toity Italian, there are many places to go, and they are good to great, this is not that place, don't be confused, go there for what they obviously do so very well..make you one of the family.

Talk about an ENJOYABLE, FESTIVE experience! If you haven't tried Chef Julie's Bruschetta....you are missing out! Mmmmm! We also had the Seafood Cioppino and the Chicken Parmigiana. Delicisio!!! Yes, the food was great, the service top notch, but most enjoyable was atmosphere. Whether sitting at the wine bar talking with Dana or Mario to sitting in the romantic, fun dining room, you feel like never leaving. Julie, Ricardo and Mario are family and make you feel like family. Their twin boys, Giuliano and Dante also work there and are so courteous and friendly! You really feel your going to "where everybody knows your name". :0) Thanks Trattoria Cattaneo! See you again next week.

So this is down to earth Italian as it was meant to be. No fancy over the top dishes that are hybrids of various cuisine. Ricardo and Julie, the owners, do it right and serve it with love and care for their customers. We go a few times a month and it feels like my wifes grandmothers Italian kitchen. Again, it's not fancy but, the food is great. The wine selection is basic but, well thought out and compliments the food, which is the point. If you haven't been, go and give it a try and be impressed with the basics done really well. It's nice to see a local Sonoma County, Santa Rosa family working in and supporting the community. Cheers

One of my favorite local places... Well, it used to be. The food was great, the service was awesome and the price made it a place I could go every week and not feel guilty. But the past few times I have been there, the food just tastes... different... the marinara sauce tastes canned with a hand full(maybe two) of oregano thrown in. It didn't always taste like that! I had dreams of bathing in the stuff! Now I just don't feel the food is as good as it used to be. Errr! Full stop! The tiramisu hasn't lost a step and still kicks ass! The service is great. Ricardo makes everyone feel like a regular! But I am honestly blown away with Julie's response to one of the reviews! There were a hundred different ways she could have worded that where it would have been more positive but also may have brought the reviewer back in to try again. Instead, she called him a coward and told him to go somewhere else. It's not cowardice to not say anything if you don't like the food, we are customers, if we don't like the food, we just won't go back. Instead of losing one customer with your comment, you may have lost two. I think I figured out what is making the food taste different... little too much bitterness.

We live in Mill Valley and would travel to Novato for dinner because, brother of Riccardo, Mario worked at an Italian restaurant there. With commute traffic it was almost a one hour ordeal but to be attended to by Mario was worth it !!! Now Mario works with his brother and wife, Julia, who is in "La Cucina"(kitchen). We go to Walmart in Rohnert Park occasionally as there is not one in Marin County. My wife likes to save $10-$20 on toiletries not wanting to realize that the gas costs what we save. But I comply because Rohnert Park is only about 10 miles south of this restaurant. I put on one of my Pavarotti CDs and I can tell you that once we leave Hwy 101 & go East and pass the Fairgrounds and take Bennett Valley Road the last few miles, the scenery is just like being in a small road in Italia. It's a delightful drive. Enjoyable dining in restaurants these days is more than just good food...the service and environment are important too and all of the review comments on Yelp about being treated like family are so true. For me, a septuagenarian, being here is pure nostalgia as it brings me back to dining with my family years back. We go to Italia every year & being here is as close to being in Italia with its delightful environment & the delicious food. The restaurant is usually packed and deservedly so and I recommend making a reservation. What's very nice too is that you can sit at the bar while waiting and can eat there too. For sports fans, they usually have the predominant sports event of the day/evening on the TV. But Mario and Riccardo are busy, busy and deliver food to the tables and even with busboys, they are not above taking finished plates from the table. As hurried as they are, they never fail to take a moment and say "Ciao" to regular customers who have just sat down and to also say "Arriverderci" with "Baci and Abbracci" (hugs & kisses to the women) and a strong handshake to the men as they leave. What I really appreciate is that my parents, grandparents and many relatives are born in Italy 100+ years ago and they spoke Italian to me when I was small. So, I always like to keep my Italian current and what I really like about Mario and Riccardo is that when I speak Italian, weakly or not, they respond in Italian and when I speak English, they respond in English. Their English is better than my Italian but this gives me the dignity of speaking the language of my ancestors. You are probably waiting to read about the food ? Rather than commenting on specific dishes, we've enjoyed everything we've eaten here. Oh, I do want to comment that the "tapenade" which can be made with many ingredients, olive oil, capers, garlic, anchovies etc. but the main one is olives put on the table with some "focaccia" bread is dangerously delicious as you can fill up on this before your main meal comes. I remember my Mamma used to say as she kept eating more and more of the same thing and we asked why & she responded "per togliermi lo sfizio". The word "sfizio" is not easy to translate but remember a potato chip company ad was that they bet you could not eat just one and like eating peanuts, it's not easy to stop. There is another Italian saying which may help to explain "lo sfizio" and it's "l'appetito viene mangiando"---"one's appetite increases eating" and this is what can happen with this Focaccia & Tapenade. Last night I ordered an appetizer special "Guazzetto di Cozze e Vongole"(mussels & clams in a broth). There was still a lot of scrumptious broth remaining---I'm guessing tomatoes, garlic, oil, wine, juice from the seafood. In Italy there is another expression "Fare La Scarpetta" (little shoe)where you use the bread to scoop up sauce but I felt the bread would be too filling so I wouldn't enjoy the rest of my meal so I asked Mario for some pasta & he brought me some "Pennette"(small Penne pasta) which I used to finish the broth/sauce...yum !!! We always love the Tiramisu here and I believe Julie makes all or most of the desserts. "Tiramisu" means to toss me up in the air with the intention of a "pick me up" to make me happier. The very generous pourings of Vino by the glass and a satisfied full stomach had already done that but with my Espresso and a good gesture offering of "Prosecco" I was euphoric ! Naturally, my wife drove back to Marin County. You people in Sonoma county are truly lucky you do not have the distance to travel we must do to enjoy this authentic Italian "ristorante" !!! If they were in Southern Marin, we'd eat there at least once per week. And any of you people in San Francisco/ Marin County etc. who go to the Casinos north or travel the wine country for the day and return on Hwy 101, you should come west on Hwy 12 and you'll be just a few miles from this restaurant. Buon Appetito !!!

I was just at Trattoria Catteneo last Tuesday- and I was amazed how busy it was! We had a large party but everything arrived hot and on-time. I had the Linguini Vongole (with fresh clams). The pasta was perfectly cooked, the white wine sauce was lovely and the clams were fresh. I also had the special romaine lettuce salad with Gorgonzola. The lettuce was perfect and had just the right amount of Gorgonzola- the only minor complaint I would have is that the dressing was a little bit sweet for my taste, but I still ate the entire salad!

My husband, 16 yr old daughter and I, tried out this fun restaurant on a week night - LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it!!! I'd been wanting to try it out for months. The owner, Ricardo was so cute, came out, talked to us and even recognized my daughter from cheer leading since his sons are football players at the same school. He introduced us to his bro who is also an owner with him. The ambiance was so fun (family affair), food was fabulous, and even my daughter loved it, who is very picky. We will definetely be back and will recommend to all our friends.

I've been here twice now and I like it. It's not a place I would normally say I like but the food is good. It reminds me of homemade Italian food and the service is also pretty good. I am a fan of the Italian owner who is sometimes hard to understand but makes you feel right at home. He is definitely in the business of pleasing. We came here the night before my moms oral surgery and she couldn't eat solid food for 6 weeks and the 1st place she wanted to eat at was Trattoria Cattaneo. The owner was so pleased when we told him he gave us some free drinks. : ) I've had their vegetable lasagna which was a special and I absolutely LOVED it. I've also had their gorgonzola gnocchi which i don't think was on the menu either and that was also amazing. I'm moving down the street from this place in a few weeks and I can't wait to be able to walk here for an easy dinner.

Amazing service, unlimited bread, great food. I wish this was the baseline for all Italian restaurants. I would be more than willing to elaborate in this review, but that would cheapen it. You don't need 3 paragraphs of praise to be convinced... do you? Go here, and you won't be sorry.

We were in desperate need of a night out and got a coupon for one free entree in the mail. I have been walking by this place for a while since it is right near our place. I Love Italian food and I am pretty picky so my expectations are usually pretty high. I have to say The Service was great and friendly the food was mmm mmm good. We got the polenta Antipasti which was soooo good I want to try and make it haha my gnocchi was yummy but my boyfriends lasagna was so amazing i kept eating off his plate. This place we are for sure customers for life :)

We received a gift certificate from my boy friends work. We went for dinner and arrived around 530. No one was there so we chose whichever table we wanted. The male waiter was friendly and courteous. He brought us bread and an olive tapenade which was complimentary. Delicious! The bread was a mix between garlic bread sticks and sliced sourdough. On top of that we ordered the bruschetta. It was wonderful as well on top of crispy sourdough slices with balsamic vinegar. YUMM. and then our meal. He ordered Pest Penne with chicken and I had the half roast chicken with veggies. The veggies, green beans and carrots were cooked al dente which was perfect and the chicken fell off the bone with amazing flavor. I decided to try the Peroni beer on tap and was pleased. It complimented my meal well. After eating our fill (and taking some home) we agreed on the Vanilla sefforado with berries and chocolate, so amazing, we shared and didn't even finish and they complimented it with a shot of dessert wine. Such wonderful service and delightful food. Upon leaving the place was basically full except a few tables left for reservations. I recommend this to anyone who wants good food without the pretentiousness.

This place has a quiet, casual atmosphere great for a mellow night out for 2. The food was inexpensive $10-15 for entrees and $6-11 for appetizers, we didn't try the dessert. To be honest, nothing special on the food side- average pasta dishes done well but with no glam. Perfect for us on that night. We had the pesto linguine which was creamy and the "special' gnocchi with spinach in a cream sauce which was not too rich. The caprice salad, also a special, was only 3 pieces and $8 so a bit pricey. We got the house Chianti a full craft for $20, a pretty good deal and ok for the pallet too! The waitress was super friendly and the owner even honored a coupon that was no longer valid! Overall we really enjoyed ourselves.

Great experience. Service was very good and personal. The food was excellent, and the selection of italian wines was delightful. Even with a full restaurant, our plates came out ahead of expectation. It was great to get the owner to check on our table, but even better to see his whole staff providing the same personal service and care. The desserts were out of this world. Tiramisu awesome and the Creme Brulee had the most rich and unique taste. This was our first time here. We'd heard of this place before, and last night finally decided to break from our regular close-by restaurants and try this Trattoria. What a wonderful decision we made. We have family visiting and we're planning on making this a mandatory stop for them.

My husband and I love this place. It's walking distance from our house. The service is great. The food is simple Italian food, nothing fancy, just good home made food. I love the casual atmosphere. They always start you off with yummy bread and olive tapenade. They serve a sweet desert wine at the end of the meal as well. Try this place!!!!

I will first start with a positive, the service was casual and attentive. The rest, I'm afraid, is about the poor quality of food. I am a first-generation born in America Italian. I make nearly yearly trips to visit family in Tuscany, Italy. Several members of my family are professional chefs, in the US and in Italy. I know Italian food, northern and southern. This little restaurant needs some help. I ordered the minestrone and the polenta appetizer. First, the minestrone had full size penne that I could tell upon first glance was over cooked. The pasta was completely bloated and falling apart. The ingredients in the soup seemed to be carrots and pasta- this might have been poor scooping. However, the minestrone was made with a tomato base that was akin to Campbells tomato soup, yikes. (Minestrone is a stock based soup. And minestrone does not rhyme with "pony" fyi) After struggling through this, I hoped the polenta would be better. Unfortunately, I was wrong. The polenta was cold, which they tried to remedy with a super hot sauce. The sauce tasted the same as the minestrone. I can only assume that they used the same base for this. It was all so uninspired, the food had no soul. This is NOT a replacement for Roberto's. I know that restaurants will do fusions and new spins on old ideas, but quality is quality. I feel that, at the very least, an Italian restaurant should have a good sauce. My friend ate two bites of her cannelloni and refused to take it home. I have never seen her not finish a meal. She was too kind to utter any poor word in the restaurant, saving all of her comments for the car. Trattoria, please reconsider your recipes and make Italians proud. Thank you. I'm looking at the comment below from the owner... Calling a guest a coward is poor business. We didn't say anything in the restaurant, because we were too kind. PS: You have spelling errors on your menu.

The food is great but the service is just amazing. They have house wine served in a carafe, my wife and I loved it as it reminded us of how things are done in Italy. They gave us complimentary Bruschetta which was real tasty as well as a basket with two kinds of breads and an olive/garlic dip. We started with the caprese salad which was good. My wife had the gnocchi, I took a bite and thought that they were a little undercooked and doughy. I had the penne pasta with pesto sauce and I added italian sausage. It was really good. After the meal they gave us each a comlimentary little glass of dessert wine. The meal was affordable and the food was good. Excellent service.

I love this place! They are always so friendly and welcoming. My boyfriend and I always come in at 8:55pm (just happens to be when we can make it over there right after work) and they always let us come in... even though they close around 9pm. The pasta is SO fresh and the dip that you get with your bread could be my meal (that's how much I love it). Great menu, WONDERFUL prices and just a delightful staff!!!!! Thanks so much!!!!

Bruschetta, Caprese salad, Veal Parmesan, Gnocchi, Chianti Classico - the food in this restaurant is reminiscent of Roma... But the service... If Ricardo (the owner) serves you, you are in for a treat. Old world graciousness in modern day Sonoma County. I intend to return often to try the many other menu items and specials. Couldn't help but to notice the many people who were waiting outside to be seated. That is a great sign, and I understand why!!

First when you enter the place you get the sweet aroma waft over you along with the mural and family photos. We were greeted upon entering and were quickly seated, which was amazing for the place was packed. The bread sticks were the first food tasted and it was so yummy it was hard to stop myself as to not fill up on them. Also something that is rare even the water tasted good and was served in glass bonus for taste. I later ordered a sangria and is was unique, delicious, and it had fruits and mint in it. I have never had a sangria with mint before! I ordered gnocchi, which seemed to melt in my mouth along with delicious creamy alfredo sauce. I swear I tasted nutmeg, which was new and it worked well. Hands down one of the best Italian meal I have ever had aside from my great grandfather who was from Italy himself. Also the owner was the one that took our order and he spoke with an Italian accent, it was not faked either. He was helpful when we had a question, friendly, and very kind. My sweetie had spaghetti in marinara sauce with a meatball and it was superb. I told him we had no choice, but to order dessert so we ordered chocolate tort with vanilla gelato with it seemed homemade whipped cream. So very yummy! What I really enjoyed was that none of the flavors were over powering, but subtle which to me allowed me to enjoy the flavors that much more. If you go here with someone much older some salt should be added to bring out more of the flavors for them. When we got the bill we were pleasantly surprised at how affordable it was. We will be going back with our appetites guaranteed to be satisfied!

Heard about it from my friends at the North Bay Italian Cultural Center. Went with my picky son to try it out. It was outstanding! Leave it to a bunch of Italian Americans to find decent Italian food outside of Rome or Ovieto!

Trattoria (or Ricardo's) as my son calls it is an A+ family place to eat. I love the owners who have become Bennett Valley favorites. My favorite dish is the Linguini Carbonera. Not too heavy and large on flavor. And, the wine is good and priced reasonably. The bruschetta is outstanding as I love the balsamic reduction on top... And, they are always accomodating...my son always orders his "proscuitto plate", not on the menu, but he has it every time. He says, the best in town! If you haven't been here, you should come.

We just dined at this neighborhood restaurant for the first time last night, and it was fantastic! Classic italian and great prices. Loved it! We'll be back! I had the veal manicotti and my husband has the fish special - mahi mahi in a white wine sauce. We both really enjoyed our meals. Highly recommended.

Fantastic 'neighborhood' Italian place -- cozy interior, fantastic food, very reasonable prices, and Julie and especially Ricardo really make everyone feel at home/welcome. We LOVE Julie's pesto. Very affordable for homemade Italian with great people working there.

I just came back from the Trattoria Cattaneo I think I am still high on the endorphins from my polenta with the little sausage thingies. I am serious everyone, run, don't walk , to this place. WHOA! what a experience, it reminded me when we went backpacking in Europe for a month and I kept looking for small , homey ( Translation: inexpensive) cafes, pizzerias and Trattoria. Jeff Cox was right on. Heather and Mikey and Christoph met me there at the bar, where we all had a glass of prossecco, to cleanse the palate you know. We brought our own wines, but the list looked great and nothing was over 40 dollars a bottle. The special was a small bruschetta with freshly sliced prosciutto, strawberries and a balsamic reduction, Sounds odd to some but it actually very typical of some provinces, It was light and playful, flavorful and cleansed the palate completely for the salad. I didn't try the balsamic vinaigrette but I enjoyed the Cesar because the lettuce was cut in small bits and the dressing was yummy. Very nice very nice, We had Francis Ford Coppola Classic 2004 Rosso, I should of kept it for a couple more years. It was yummy but it tasted young still. So we opened the Selby 2007 old vine Zin,then it came the most wonderful thing. The entrees. Both Mikey and Christoph had the Vegetarian lasagna with the bechamel sauce, It was elegant and light, both in texture and flavor, very subtle. Heather had the potato gnocchi with the light cream sauce and the balsamic reduction,. It was complex and the very pleasant flavor combination lingered in the palate for time after the spoon had left the mouth. Very nice, light and sophisticated, but still comfort food like. But what I got knocked every-ones socks off. I ordered the polenta with the sausage, but instead of an appetizer I asked for it to be a full size. Boy was that the right choice. I have not had polenta like that since eating at Mary-Louise Kornells kitchen table back in the day. It was firm it was golden, it was delicious, Not greasy but creamy and buttery. It had a deep savory buttery flavor that stood up to the yummy, no make that super yummy, tomato sauce and little sausage balls. This is what the chef makes for her children. And they are loved. And I felt the love. I tasted the love. The Selby was so elegant and well behaved with all the flavors exploding from the sauces and the polenta, Yeepee! Then we had to have dessert. The semifreddo was delicious and refreshing, like a tangy frozen yogurt with the texture of Hag-gen Daz. ice cream. The Creme Brulee was also a very yummy choice, perfect caramel top and sublime custard like body. But I am telling you, you need a hug? cant get one? or maybe embarrassed to ask for one? go get yourself some of this divine women's polenta and make sure you get plenty of sauce, the prices are great and the portions very generous. This is authentic comfort food, so if you expect Marie calenders, you might not like it, But if you like traditional real comfort food Don't walk! Run! to the Trattoria Cattaneo! and save me a seat! call me! Ill meet you there!

I'm in a little late on this one since, when I went in today, I found out they no longer are making deli sandwiches, which is what I regularly get when I eat here (2-3 times a month). The sandwiches were great, but I suppose that's irrelevant now. They are now offering grilled panini sandwiches and other kitchen items like lasagna for lunch, and I'm sure the quality on those will be good as well. Very friendly service in a super clean establishment with comfy atmosphere. They also have a nice beer and wine selection, including Russian River beers. After reading the reviews here I think I'll stop by for dinner some time soon.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
